Blackstone Report by Dustin Gebhardt posted Sep 16, 2019 at 12:17 PM
Here is my latest oil report. Note that I had a case of Mobil 1 0w20 laying around at that time. It was supposed to go into my ex's Honda (before she became my ex 2 years ago), so this latest report doesn't use 5w20 nor 5w30...
I replaced the ones on my girlfriend's 2012 Focus last year. After messing with them a few times (brake jobs, suspension work, etc.) and fighting them every time, I was fed up. A new set from Amazon and I am now a happy camper.
Sounds like a vacuum issue. In 2H mode, the IWE's see vacuum, and keep the IWE's disengaged. If a drop in the vacuum occurs, then the IWE's try to engage. In 4A mode, the IWE's are without vacuum and should be engaged. The Expy's traction system monitors the various wheel speeds and switches...
My memory is a bit hazy, but I believe that the vent ducting runs up the c-pillar to the vents in the ceiling. I found that one of my ducts had become separated behind the seatbelt shoulder attachment point. The cold AC air was being dumped into the space between the headliner and the vehicle...
I purchased by '07 with 218,000 miles on it back in May of 2017. I knew that she needed some TLC, as the transmission was shifting poorly and the brakes were terrible. The rotors looked to be the original and I don't recall the manufacturer of the pads. The pads had some red RTV on the backs...
To further update my situation in the hope that it helps somebody else out:
1. Last year, after noticing poor AC performance, I discovered that the compressor was prematurely cycling on/off. Using my multimeter and comparing it to results I found online, I discovered that the temperature sensor...
2 weeks ago I installed 2 electric fans in front of the condenser (and P/S cooler and aux trans cooler). My idle AC has greatly improved at the cost of a bit more noise (but only if you are standing near the front of the car).
My 2001 vibrated like you described until I replaced the u-joints. 3 different sizes required for my year, if I recall. I ended up going to multiple parts stores and Ford to get them all. Several years later, my 4R100 dropped the intermediate sprag. The transmission shop did something to the...
Why not? It's "safer" than running in 2H, if an emergency situation was to come up. I ran in 2H for several months to evaluate the impact it has on gas mileage and it was unnoticeable. The Ford manual says that 4A can be run in dry weather and on pavement.
I need some pointers on where to start looking. I have a 2007 EL Limited 4x4. Recently, I've been hearing and feeling a thump at around 35-42MPH. This hasn't been a normal transmission gear shift, but rather in-between shifts. I can eliminate the noise if I switch from 4A to 2H. If I...
My tee fitting broke last year and I replaced it with a tee and 3 hose clamps. The OEM part has molded hose clamps, but they are easy to cut off. Once the plastic bands are cut, the whole thing comes apart easily. It was probably a 30 minute fix, start to finish.
I would start by asking how the mechanic attempted the plug removal initially. If the procedure was not as the TSB stated, then I would ask the shop manager why the TSB procedure was not followed. If the mechanic did not follow the TSB, then I would firmly but politely, request that the shop...
It could also be a heater core leak. Is the problem better or worse when you set the climate control to hot or cold? If it's worse while set to a higher temperature, your heater core could be leaking. Many people categorize coolant smelling like sweet, musty, or greasy/oily.
If the AC works fine while moving, but struggles while idling, then I would say that the condenser is struggling. The AC on my '07 make's 70'F air (center vent, driver's side) when idling in >90'F ambient weather or makes 50-60'F air while driving in town. But when I'm driving for several...
Send out an oil sample to Blackstone Labs. Get the TBN (an extra charge). This will give you an idea on the amount of time left on the oil. With modern synthetics, I wouldn't be surprised if they lasted 12 to 24 months or more.
I ordered both front brake lines, but it looks like Raybestos mis-boxed one and I ended up with a brake line for a mid-90's Durango along with one for my Expy. Oh well. RockAuto expedited a new line. Meanwhile, I replaced the driver's side line and it helped a bunch. My pull to the right was...
I bought new hoses from Rockauto last night. They should be here in a few days.
Thanks for the suggestions. I searched the forum and found the threads where you guys each found your problem. The IR gun is a great idea. After reading that thread I had planned to try that today. And I saw the...
The more I pump it, the less I feel the pull. My general braking procedure right now is to firmly depress the pedal and quickly release (adjust the steering wheel to correct the pull), then quickly press the brake pedal again (which requires less steering wheel adjustment, if any at all)...
This one has me stumped and I hope you fine folks can point me in the right direction. I have an 07 EL Limited (233k miles) that pulls to the right when I firmly brake. The steering wheel also rotates while this happens, so I suspect that the front brake system is to blame. If I release the...
