I always prefer to find the cause and fix it, things only get worse, never better but getting a small jump starter box sounds reasonable as long as it doesn’t start happening more often. The jump starter boxes are always useful things to have.
I have had the occasional bad battery where one of the cells or connections to the cells goes open circuit occasionally, so the battery appears to be dead, but once I restart the car, the battery then works fine. I suspect you might have something similar. Next time it happens, try to measure...
The rear gas assist struts are probably failing. As they get weaker (over time) the tail gate doesn’t open as high. I had the same issue on my 08, got a set of cheap struts (from Amazon, about $50) and replaced them, the door went up a couple of extra inches. I am 6’2” tall and easily pass under...
Yes, I went and looked at the pictures again and as you say, there is clearly a 2 post vehicle lift.. I would love to have one of those!! I initially just read the post and didn’t look at the pictures too much and have often borrowed friends engine hoists and just incorrectly assumed that he had...
If it’s a 4x4 also change the transfer box oil.. I change differential oil (front & rear), transfer box oil and transmission oil (and filter) every 70-80k miles. Car is at 250+k miles, spent thousands of miles pulling our 8000 lbs RV trailer and never had a single transmission problem.. cheap...
Were you using a vehicle lift? Or an engine hoist? I thought when you said lift you were referring to an engine hoist, but maybe you meant a vehicle lift? I could see a vehicle hoist being helpful, I couldn’t see why an engine hoist would help..
My 08 expedition has heated/cooled seats and I could not find replacement foam, so used the old foam. It’s why I stated if you can replace the foam to do so. My foam is still in good condition, but I believe the heated/cooled seats have additional holes/ventilation in the foam and that is why we...
As stated above, you do need to remove the seat (just 4 bolts and one electrical connector). If you can get replacement foam, I would also suggest doing that.
Is it actually blowing at all? There is a resistor ladder that is used to set slow fan speeds and on max speed, the resistor is bypassed. The resistors often fail which means the fans only blow when on max.. can you see if the cooling system is blowing any air at all? If it only blows on max...
You could buy an aftermarket receiver and remotes, then wire the new receiver to your garage opener and program the car opener to the new receiver. It’s a bit more wiring but was how I overcame this issue.
I use something like this...
But that bolt/screw is further away from the sidewall, than the screw in the original post. I would have no issues patching your tyre, but the original post was not safely repairable (in my opinion). Just the luck of the draw, where the puncture occurs.
I would be checking your fuel pump and fuel line pressure first. A failing fuel pump will cause all the issues you describe and is an easy fix, you can usually rent a fuel pressure tester at autozone and check the pressure in a minute.
05 was when Ford switched from the 2 valve engine to the 3 valve engine. That is probably the cause of the power increase, it is not a simple job to switch parts..
So how many miles did the expedition have when you sold it? My 08 is at 250,000 and still running great. Hope to drive it until it or I die, whichever happens first.
The top bolt was the one I had trouble getting to!! Managed it with a 1/4” socket and extension.. glad to hear it all runs. Hope your neck doesn’t give you to much trouble in the next few days.
I also changed mine on the driveway with no jacks/lifts, it was a squeeze getting under the car, but...
I would try running a compression check on each cylinder, a valve might have rusted and not be closing. You need fuel, compression and spark. The coils are unlikely to fail from sitting. The injectors can gum up, ethanol fuel will turn into caramel quite quickly and jam things. Check...
I would suggest also changing the oil in the transfer box and both differentials. It wouldn’t harm to also flush the cooling system (if it’s the original coolant). Brake fluid is also due for a flush.. assuming it’s a 4 wheel drive expedition.
My 08 starter motor failed around the 200K miles mark. It's a little fiddly to change but not too bad, however if you are recovering from back surgery it might be a good idea to let a local independent garage change it out. Less than an hours labor (with the right tools!!).

In the 08 and probably the 10, the ford DVD is just a small single screen that drops down in the middle of the car between the 2 front seats. My kids soon grew tired of it and we bought an aftermarket system with a screen that hangs on the back of each front seat. Bigger screen, easier to see...
