Cam Phaser issue scaring me from buying

This is a case in point. All auto manufacturers have problems: the parts they buy are from all the same sort of companies - they don’t make them themselves. Assembly is probably the only thing they have control of, but that can be hit or miss depending on the model. Same with design. They can...

2021 XLT Halogen Headlight to LED?

If deer are an issue, I found that the fog conversion to LED lights up the side of the roads decently (well, maybe not good enough for higher speeds, but great to see in the bushes and growth to the left and right). there are a few LED manufacturers. Go with a decent quality modern design...

Power lift gate with kick assist on 2021 XLT

I removed the antenna completely. I had it work twice when I needed it, and five thousand six hundred and fifty seven times when I didn’t.

    2021 Limited without tow package

I have a non-tow package and have towed a TT at around 5klbs. It works fine (but haven’t towed recently). Do you plan on towing something bigger? Are you possibly going to tow more often? If so, then hold out for the tow package. If not, then based on what you are towing, duration, etc. looks...

    Wheel Corrosion?

Have you been to a tire place and looked at the skilled workforce? ;) Seriously, though, if tires were taken off and need to be balanced, I believe some balancers require the center cap to come off depending on the wheel size. Doesn't seem to be the case, here, though. To me, it looks like it...

    Spare tire issue?

Could it be that when they air ratcheted the cable up that it didn't wind cleanly and what you are hearing is the cable shifting as you wind it tight? Maybe wind it down and then back up by hand and see if there is a difference.

    My LGE-CTS/Baja Forged front bumper

Took a lot of commitment to make that cut in the front bumper without any template. It does look good. Side question: what diameter is that front bar? 1 1/4?

2019 and aftermarket rear LED brake light bar?

No room (I mean, you could, but the gap between the lift gate and the bumper is pretty small). A truck tailgate has a much bigger gap because of the way it hinges down, lending itself to the application.

Can we talk HD Tow one more time?

RV and TT dealers are there to sell trailers. I’ve been to RV shows where they what vehicle can tow the specific trailer: ‘your Jeep Grand Cherokee can tow this!’ when I bought my first TT many moons ago, I simply walked into an RV dealer and drove out with a 20 foot travel trailer hooked up to...

Can we talk HD Tow one more time?

I know that's a funky angle, but daym! Is he still stuck in the parking lot?

OEM LED Headlamps or LED upgrade on projectors?

This is an interesting situation. First of all, so what? If you fit them, then what is the violation? Specifically, who cares about federal manufacturer requirements? however, if they create excessive glare, it would be a state or local traffic law that you would be in violation of...

    FUSEBOX LAYOUT

Based on a 2019: This is a tricky one. The puddle lights are driven directly from the Driver and Passenger Door Module (DDM AND PDM) which are in the doors. The DDM is powered, for example, from fuse F25 (30A) which is hot at all times (most modules appear to be that way). Obviously, tapping...

4th Gen windshield replacement? Almost made me lose my mind.

Some states require a zero deductible for windshield replacement, as it’s perceived as a serious safety issue. It does seem like windshields are a lot more expensive, these days. as far as Safelite goes, I have had a $1400 Windshield replaced by them, a complex install, and rhey did an...

    Extra Fuel Storage

Fuel economy is likely to be similar: both engines are running closer to their most efficient operating point so you are looking at pure physics. As far as a tank goes, you are looking at a custom fabrication, and installation, as noted.

    4th Gen Expy Max - Wrapped C-Pillar

I put on 3M 2080 G12 Gloss black. It isn't a 'smooth' gloss black, but has an orange peel look to it. Not highly noticeable unless you are looking for it. I used a clay bar with highly diluted dishwashing liquid as a lubricant to remove dirt specks and any wax.

    New purchase dilemma...

Sell the pickup, buy a cheap junker until the vehicle you want hits the market at a price you can tolerate.

Has anyone removed the plastic part hanging down on the front bumper?

I would agree. Of course, even a sheet of paper would make anything ‘more rigid’. Taking mine off, and even trimming what remains has not caused any loss of rigidity. There’s a reason they call it a bumper cover.

    Expedition Max vs standard size

Short (standard) wheel base might look weird because of the rake. Take off the air dam, level with some shocks, and it looks fine. Same with the GM equivalents. Just my 2c on that.

    Changing rear end gears

R.e. Engine/cooling: Wouldn’t that imply that both the vehicles can tow the max rating? (Changing the radiator out to the HD one). And you are correct that putting oversized tires will theoretically decrease your max rating (assuming the max rating is actually a max). I am aware that there...

    Changing rear end gears

All things being equal, yes. However, each gearing is designed for a specific mechanical torque capability. You can’t just drop to 9th and have the same mechanical advantage without additional torque applied to the 9th gearset. I believe the 2017 had a 6 speed transmission? Experiment with...

    Gotta breath?

Unless you are pushing the engine to the upper end of its torque and power, you won’t realize any gains (if they exist). As noted, a more open filter will have more noise. however, if you are doing other things to the engine, there is probably some benefit.

Where to tap into HI beam wiring?

Luckily, doing such things is in my skill set, but am sometimes unaware that people don't know that stuff. I need to rearrange the wires a bit (currently set as a semi-permanent 'proof of concept' so it isn't pretty) and will take some pictures for those that want it, as will as diagrams as...

Where to tap into HI beam wiring?

Yes, added some capacitors and rectifier diodes. I have two relays in series: one comes on with the fogs and one with the high beams. I added a diode around the relay coil (flyback diode) and a diode in series with the each activation signal from the fog and high beam. I think they are 470uF...

    2022 Ford Expedition Timberline

It certainly looks like it, but i'm curious how: did they ride up the frame rails front and rear? The front skid plate looks like it goes up to the hooks, which is how I have mine, but it looks steeper (I was disappointed when adding the plate to mine, as it didn't have as 'extreme' slope). I'm...
