    Rear Diff fluid change questions

I did only use one bottle I had not read other wise for these rigs and the capacities chart in the manual calls for 4oz of XL-3 Friction Modifier fluid. I also only used one bottle in my Mustangs. I have heard of folks using 2 bottle with the Ford Racing models that have the carbon fiber...

    Spare Tire

The issue you will likely run into is the bracket on the end of the tether you lower will need to be swapped out or modified. The hub bore on the steel spare wheels is much larger allowing the bracket to pass through. I know the 1st gen Raptors came with the same spare wheel (just black) and...

    Rear Diff fluid change questions

I hit the fill plug with just under 2 quarts and the friction modifier. A quart is a touch over 33 oz. so the friction modifier which is actually a 4oz. bottle is about .12 of a quart. So 2 quarts of oil plus 4oz of friction modifier is give or take 2.12 quarts. Plus you are never going to get...

    Rear Diff fluid change questions

Yup. Local NAPA and off-road shop stocks a decent amount. Pretty sure Amsoil has a stocking dealer locator on the site.

    Rear Diff fluid change questions

That is the stuff though I have not bought into the squeeze pouch idea. I have the pump you screw on the bottles. No mess and I reuse the bottle for the old fluid. Putting the old fluid into the pouch seems like a pain.

    Custom front bumper

Member @Aces modified an F150 bumper. Had to open up the mounting holes on the bumper slightly but does not look like much work. His looks pretty slick. Pics of the modified mounting points are in his media file. I am debating between the Raptor style front bumper or a DV8 Baja. I'll then...

Going down in rim size, improve off-road ride?

As long as the overall diameter is close it will not make a difference for short spare distance use. Just put the spare on the front and don’t run 4x4 and auto. I went 18s and will go with a matching spare here shortly so I can have the tires the exact same. Since I off-road if I lose a tire on...

Yes. Just outlining each and their difference as sometimes since you are going to be under there anyway easier just to do them all.

    Volume going to 0?

Anything in the floor of the back seat? I had a cooler back there that would turn it down on decent left turns.

    Rear Diff fluid change questions

The rear and TC is simple. Open the top fill plug first. Then do your bottom drain plug. The factory uses red thread locker on both so torch them first or you will bugger up the plug (trust me). Granted they are only $4 each. I replaced both plugs new plugs also come with red thread locker...

    Rear Diff fluid change questions

I used Amsoil 75-90 Severe Gear Oil I do not believe Amsoil makes a 75-85. I used Ford Motorcraft Friction Modifier. I believe Amsoil is call Sliploc I have never used it as strangely no one carries it locally.

rear strut replacement. Same units for EL as the standard length?

No need for the 5100s if you aren’t wanting lift. 4600s will do you just fine. You reuse the bump stop and shaft cover. May not hurt to buy a new bump stop.

Going down in rim size, improve off-road ride?

Not much of a price difference between 17s and 18s until you get above a 35” tire. I was wanting 17s but opted for 18s as price difference was minimal and I could run my stock 18” wheels leaving me cash for other projects. As for the original question without a doubt you will much prefer 18s...

    432,000 miles and uses oil

I would highly advise against changing anything. Just run what you are running and add oil as needed. You’ve got dang near half a million miles on a Ford gasoline engine. That goes to show you are doing it right. A quart of oil every 3k on a motor with that much use in nothing. If you’re not...

    432,000 miles and uses oil

You have over 400k miles. DO NOT CHANGE WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!! Just add oil when needed between changes. You are only asking for leaks from gunked up seals if you do. Older well used engines use oil not a huge deal. A quart every 3k is nothing for an engine with that mileage.

rear strut replacement. Same units for EL as the standard length?

Don’t use Monroe quick struts. Even crappier than OEM. Bilstsin 4600s are what you seek and they are the same for ELs and nonELs

Ted from Texas asks: OEM or aftermarket struts all around? 2013 XLT

Bilstein 4600s Cheaper and far better than OEM.

    Shocks

While you can physically lift the front end 4” with the F150 5100s. No way you can safely run them. I had it that high for a week and it was no fun and anything over 40 nowhere near safe.
