    Noise on start up

The 'knock' sound when cold, could be your exhaust manifolds leaking. The bolts break and warp them. They expand when they heat up and seal. Sooner or later more studs will break or the manifold will crack. One side wound up cracking on mine. Listen down by the wheel wells, right after...

    Noise on start up

If the tensioner failed, the chain has been grinding the metal under it and front cover. The broken plastic guides get sucked up in the oil pick up and starve the engine. This is why Ford replaces, instead of fixing.

    Noise on start up

I have Lincoln Intech 32v that did the same thing. I stopped using motorcraft paper filters(sold at Walmart) and switched to Mobil 1 oil and premium filters, like Mobile 1 or Fram Ultra synthetic. No more noise. I also initially, added 1/4 bottle of Hyper lube. That was 5yrs ago.

Best way to get more power?

The Expedition has a single exhaust, with cats. It is not capable of 500hp. Realistically, The tune, people experience is better throttle response and higher rpm between shifts. The advancing of timing gives slightly more power, but limits the vehicle to Premium fuel. Read the Mustang forums...

    Buying oil.....

The local Autozone, runs oil clearance many times a year. I have seen full synthetic(mobil 1, pennzoil) for $2 a qt. Royal purple $4. The catch is it goes quick and sometimes odd weights. The newer cars factory requirements listed on the bottles changes, so they get rid of it. Some of the...

    proper inflation?

A middle eastern, Excursion limo owner, was arrested a couple of years ago. 20 people were killed, when the modified/stretched 2001 Excursion, lost control on steep hill. One of the reason was an overloaded vehicle and safety issues

    $750 for positive battery cable

    I have driven a E450. They use standard 20, 21 or maybe 22, j-hook snap on style. They don't cost $109.

How often do you swap out your brake rotors when doing pads?

Take a large hammer and knock the crust build up(if any) on the outer edge. 2-3 sets of pads per rotor, maybe more. My originals got changed at 90K. My mothers 42Kmi Lincoln MKZ were completely shot and severely rusted on the back side. It was not noticeable until I pulled them off. Mercedes...

    proper inflation?

Those are not the same as factory tires. 10ply will ride terrible and be loud down the road. Running higher psi, will make for a worse ride.

    Oil Life Reset

I just saw an example on a awesome youtube show, called Nick's Garage. It was on his Kowalski 440 Charger engine. The engine spun and broke the rod in two. He showed how it changed color, from heating of the metal.

    $750 for positive battery cable

There are only a couple of lenths of cable. Battery to fuse box. Battery to starter solenoid. Solenoid to starter. Maybe the longest is 3-4 feet. Napa should have everything. A trip to the junk yard or EBaY will save a lot and get you the right one.

    Fix swirl marks

3M imperial hand glaze, works well on black and swirl marks. I did mine by hand, after noticing swirls all over my new 2011(red) Mustang GT. Always take delivery of a new car under artificial lights. I took delivery of mine in the service bay. The next day, I pulled into a parking lot and nearly...

Crack Powdered Rods and More Q’s (Modular V8 info)

The Coyote, Powerstroke and EB are producing way more power than the old engines. The rods are stout and not an issue. The Coyote and Voodoo engines have had ring issues. The long timing chains and guides, scare the hell out of me.

just how far can you go after zero miles to empty

Running on "e" can allow moisture condesation in the empty tank. It may overheat the in tank pump. If there is an emergency, you will run out gas 2 miles from the hospital. If the stalls out in traffic, you can get rear ended. Dumb just dumb.

    2017 3.5 EB Oil Preference

Ford recommends synthetic blend, for models sold in the USA. However the same Expedition sold in Canada or Mexico, Ford recommends full synthetic. Ford doesn't want cheap US owners, complaining about the high oil change cost. I would always use full syn in the EB and change at least 5000K.

Question on True Synthetic oil (5.4L)

Mobil 1 is a tier III oil, aka made from base stock(recycled oil). RoyalPurple and Redline are true, tier V 100% synthetics. Motorcraft full synthetic, gave me a start up rattle on my Lincoln Intech 32V. It revs really high, right after starting. Switching to a premium filter(non paper), Mobil 1...

    Changing 2018 from 3.31 to 3.73

I asked my local Harley Davidson dealer, about converting my 2800mi, 03(100th anniversary) FXD, from carb to fuel injection. They said it would be cheaper to trade it in on a newer model, already with fuel injection. You Expedition is not meant/built/setup for towing. Get one or something that is.

    Keep or trade up?

Every time Ford barely 'improved' the Expedition, they made it worse and the price goes up. Buying used, you will be facing repairs, plus having a payment. I say drive yours a little longer.
