I've run Hawk for street and racetrack for many years (and Porterfield for race). I currently have Hawk LTS (ferro-carbon compound) on my 2017 Expedition EL towing a 6300 lb travel trailer about 10x/year. These pads provide incredible braking power when towing, but they have started to squeal...
I tow a 6300lb travel trailer that puts about 1000 lb on the tongue of my 2017 EL. I use a 1000lb WDH. I had the SumoSprings on my stock rear springs/shocks, but it was still too bouncy. I wanted something adjustable (tow vs. street vs. off-road) so I went with the Rancho Quick Lift Loaded...
So I stuck my cell phone camera up where the sun don't shine... took a few photos of the rear diff and attempted taking some photos of the front diff & tranny (mostly obstructed). All photos here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/xU2Gp3safcVWwtmy8 Here are a few observations:
1) Rear diff does have a...
I'm guessing the EB does (or did) this with the bypass valve on start-up to make sure the bypass valve is not frozen shut and can actually open. If a bypass valve fails to open when you lift throttle (followed by heavy throttle), the compressor will surge, potentially harming the turbo. Since...
I'm pretty sure we have no MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. Rather, EB's sense air volume via MAP (Manifold Air Pressure) sensors. This is the reason drilling a hole in the intercooler is ok as it doesn't richen the mixture. Good point though. When I first read about the intercooler hole drilling mod...
Guys. I've been searching all around for water fording depth of the 3rd gen Expedition EL (2017 EB). I'll be headed to Mojave National Preserve in California. There are a couple water crossings that may get as deep as shown in the photo below. Wondering if I should avoid these.
From what I've...
The intercooler hoses are fine, all connected. I traced the pipes from the turbos to the intercooler. They seemed fine.
The hose coming out of the "cold" side of intercooler seems fine...
I traced that on up towards the throttle body, but could not for the life of me find the problematic...
Has anybody experienced the following? I could not find anything in a search of this forum...
Pulling out of my drive way (cold engine), while accelerating...
- Pop! noise - not a bang - like something under air pressure blew a seal.
- Louder than normal turbo sound while driving around city...
Thank you. Are you talking about this?

Does removing the resonator increase exhaust volume significantly? I've had plenty of that in my younger years and am NOT looking for a louder exhaust note at this point in my life. :) Still, I'd like to get that tailpipe out of the way of the "departure" area.
Another thing I'd like to do is redirect the exhaust to not hang out the backside down so low... Thanks for the info. Good to see that some are using their Exp for hard work!
I suppose it does as far as damage goes. I'd like a smoother transition, like a bumper/kickout/ ramp (upside down), so that it doesn't catch so abruptly on rocks and other obstacles. I've been trying to think up a design. I'm certainly not a fabricator, so hoping somebody has thought up a...
I have 275-60R20 (33" x 11") on my stock wheels, previously on my Method NV305 wheels (which cracked after some off-roading). not-quite-1" lift all around... Heavy as shit (LT, Load Range E). I lost 2-3 mpg on the highway (19 down to 16) and 1-2 mpg towing (9.5 down to 8-ish) vs my old...
I use my Expedition to tow a 6500 lb travel trailer to base-camp destinations with my family of 4, sometimes off-road, then go exploring further off-road from there. So it needs to double as a tow vehicle + off-roader w/ lots of internal cargo room.
Most of us that off-road with our Ford...
Nice! Curious - how do you like the 5100 and 4600 shocks on-road - e.g. going over big dips? I still think the 6112's could use a bit more rebound. Having 9-step adjustable Ranchos in the rear helps when going between towing (8/9) to street (7/9) to off-road (4/9).
Glad to see you're making...
Hey @Black I've got the same CBI plate on my 2017. The lip will go through the rectangular cutout on the CBI. You just have to finagle it with the truck lifted up pretty high. It's a pain in the ass but it can be done.
