You can see our 20' R-Pod in my avatar pic...weight usually tops out at about 3100 lbs. 2014 LTD with HD tow package. Andersen WDH and anti-sway system, Michelin tires for a smooth ride all the time. Average 12 mpg on highways and Western mountains combined. We camp in tight boondocking spots so...
I started towing my 3000 lb camping trailer with my 5.0L '97 Explorer. Did OK. Upgraded to my 5.4L '14 Expy, and OMG, what a difference! Only 0.4 liters difference, but I also have a 17 year difference in technology, etc... Go big!
Upgraded to a 2014 LTD with HD tow package and never looked back. Very nice setup. We're only towing about 3,500 lbs, so gobs of towing capacity to spare
I have a 2014 LTD with heated 2nd row seats. Left 2nd row seat heater switch just flashes once when it's toggled and goes out. Would that switch also be controlled by that module under the front seat?
Update: Noticed that when I toggle the left side rear passenger seat heater switch to ON, the activation lights just barely flicker on then immediately go off. Perhaps a faulty switch?
All of the under-seat cables are protected by trim covers so it doesn't look like a connector could have been...
Tipped it up only to find that any wiring under there is well-protected by trim that, like most trim, is next to impossible to figure out how to remove without breaking something :)
2014 Limited. The right rear passenger seat heater works fine...little activation lights light up and my granddaughter says it warms up OK.
However, when the left passenger seat heater toggle switch is pushed the activation lights do not illuminate which is telling me that the left side seat...
Excellent write-up. DIY and you're saving about $1500. I had a similar problem with my old Explorer, but it was a broken plastic top hinge on the door itself. The DIY fix was to cut the bottom out of the passenger side plenum, the bad door drops out and you replace it with a new door...
Have you tried any of the Yakima rack systems? I haul my 18' sea kayaks using Yakima racks. Basic system is a set of bars with towers. The mounts for kayaks and a canoe will prolly be different.
My camping trailer weighs in at about 3100 trip-ready...maybe 3200. I do use a full on weight distribution and antisway hitch, but, unlike your ATV hauler, I've got lots of frontal and side surface area to deal with. Many is the time I've been thankful for this setup in crosswinds and 18-wheeler...
Sorry...it's a 2014 Limited. Buzz does not occur at idle but after starting from a stop up to about 20 mph than goes away. Some kind of harmonic from the dash.
I hate it when folks post trying to describe a noise...but here I am doing just that.
Yep, it's a buzzing noise on the driver's side...seems to be embedded in the dash. The noise only happens at low speed as I am accelerating from stop through about 20-25 mph...then it goes away. Got about...
Bought my 2014 used with about 30,000 miles on it. Had the same issue. It was still under warranty and I took it in and the shop had to reset the computer. I think there's a TSB on this IIRC.
I've taken my 2014 on 3000+ trips towing a 3000 lb camping trailer...awesome tow vehicle! I don't think the '14 has this yaw dampener you speak of though...unless that's what the TCS is...which can toggle ON/OFF.
Is this on the passenger side under the glove box? I haven't had to do this yet, but have done on my '97 Explorer...replacing the blend door, that is. Cost about $17 vs $1200 the shop wanted.
Once I could not adjust my heater temp. Dealer said I needed a new plenum and other heater components...$1200-$1500. I fixed it for $17 when I discovered it was just a broken blend door hinge.
