Hi,
1997 Expy 5.4 1st Gen
The PCV valve vacuum hose has presented me with a problem. I just finished replacing the plugs on the passenger side and was putting wires and hoses back on when I got to the PCV valve. I pushed the vacuum hose back on the PCV valve at the valve cover but the other end...
1997 Expedition XLT 5.4L 4WD
440,000 km 275,000 mi YES!
I recently took the dash apart to replace bulbs and fix other things. Where the heck does a guy get those funny little specialty bulbs that fit into the headlight and 4x4 selector switches? I have some on the list for my next pick yer part...
I found where water was getting at the fuse box/GEM in my 1997 Expy.
See this link:https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/apparently-my-expedition-doesnt-like-the-rain.4134/
There are a number of real old threads going but I thought why not start a new one today July 2, 2021.
I have a 1st Gen Expy. One clip (rear one) came loose on the drivers window. I have looked a lot into what is the best way to re-glue these things.
There are a lot of different success failure...
Is there 2 or 3 or 4 oxygen sensors on the 1st Gen 5.4 Expy? I see one by the drivers side manifold exhaust flange and one further downstream on the exhaust pipe but I can't crawl under that side of the vehicle to check if there is 1 or 2 on the passenger side too?... and are they all the same...
There's a foot of snow on the roads now. I get a wobble when going about 25 mph/40 kph. It disappears when I switch back to 2WD.
When I creep along from a stop I can hear what sounds like loose wheel nuts, a front shaft U joint, or a bust in the diff, or what? Both hubs have been changed...
1997 Expedition.
The front shock mounting bracket is welded to the frame. The top of the shock came free of the bracket when a piece of the bracket broke off. Is there an aftermarket bracket available to either bolt on or weld on to the frame, or do I have to fashion a piece to repair the original?
97 Expy trailer light feed is not delivering anything to the rear but tail and backup lights. There is no signal/4 way feed. I checked fuses under the dash and under the hood. I didn't find any blown. Is there a circuit breaker that controls those lights too?
The solenoid mounted on the passenger side of the transfer case is not energizing when switching through the selector knob. There is no 4x4 Low illuminating on the dash, just 2 wheel, Auto, and 4x4.
Is that solenoid for 4x4 low?
If so, I will put the test light on the connector while the...
I have a 97 5.4 Expy.
It has close to 250 miles on it. It still starts and runs strong. There is a knock when cold (seems like the passenger side) and it quiets down when warmed up but doesn't go away. I thought maybe it's piston slap. Are the lifters easy to get at on these Tritons? Whats the...
I have howl and moan that gets worse with speed. It's not the tires. I used to think it was aggressive tread racket. When I am doing 50mph or so and I turn the wheel quickly as in an abrupt lane change, the noise goes away for that short time; this doesn't happen when I do the same maneuver in...
Can I use Lucus Synthetic V Twin Gear Oil 75W140 in my 1997 Ford Expedition rear end differential? Ford calls for synthetic 75W140 gear oil. It doesn't say anywhere in the Lucas data that it can be used in a differential. I was going to use it no problem but thought I would see what others say...
1997 Expy 5.4
The drivers side exhaust flange is leaking badly; it fills the cab with fumes :P. I bought it that way.
I went under and noticed one stud has rotted right off. The other stud shaft is getting mighty thin.
The passenger side studs are still holding so I might do them later unless...
1997 Expedition XLT (I think) 4x4, 5.4 engine.
When turning the key to the 'on' position, no A4WD, 4x4H, or Low Range indicator lights appear on the dash.
While following the Owner's Guide procedure for 4x4 selection, I have no 4x4L. The first time we tried the mountain path up to the lookout...
We just bought a 1997 Expedition 4x4 with a 5.4 engine. I live in Canada so it has 399,000 kilometers on it. In human language that's 248,000 miles (I'm still a fan of the Imperial System and we prefer to use it). That sounds like a good lot of miles but the motor sounds like it has a lot of...
