1997 Expedition.
The front shock mounting bracket is welded to the frame. The top of the shock came free of the bracket when a piece of the bracket broke off. Is there an aftermarket bracket available to either bolt on or weld on to the frame, or do I have to fashion a piece to repair the original?

I would fashion/weld into the existing bracket with at least 3/16" plate. Must have made a lot of noise over the years not to notice it earlier. MIG it if possible, won't be as hard on existing metal as arc weld.

I worked on it today, and saw your reply afterwards. I
fabricated a piece of 1/8" strap to fit the missing section. I migged it into place. I looked all around the shop and couldn't find any 3/16". I welded up some other cracks too. I hope it holds. I would have felt better with the 3/16" but I hope it will last like this. I was thinking of welding a 2 1/2" x 1/8" washer over the hole to beef it all up but decided not to; Still might.
You are right, this problem has been some time in the making. The shocks are pooched. For starters I have ordered some shocks and a swaybar link kit.
Thanks for getting back.

I would use 2. 1 on bottom and top if possible. Good job
2 washers you mean? It would be real hard to weld underneath/inside that shock mount.
Would you consider using
the washers without welding them, or weld the top one, but not the bottom one?
