Had the same issue with mine a year or so ago and got the vacuum harness from a dealer to fix.
What helped me find the leak though was spraying a can of carb cleaner around the vacuum hoses with the engine running, when the rpm increased I new I had sprayed somewhere close to the leak.
Sounds like everyone is up for keeping it going. I am in Milton, FL but we just moved here from California where it has been just about all its life, so no salt issues with the chassis. The thing is generally running great. I would love to do the work myself, but my job just won't afford me...
My 98 XLT 4x4 has about 147k on it and is still running great and I fully expect it to run great for a nother 50K+ or so. That being said, I want to be prepared with a plan of action should the ening or trans go out on me. Should I replace the eng/trans or look at getting a newer expedition...
Mine
148k so far nothing major, just the vacuum lines. The left rear door lock doesn't want to unlock on occasion, have to get around to looking into that some day.
Mine currently has 147k on it. While I fully expect it to last to 200+ there is always the possibility that the eng or trans might go out on me at which point I will have to make the decision to either spend the cash to fix it or just upgrade to a newer expedition (most likely an EL). Anyway...
