Great job whtbronco! My mechanic buddy at a Ford dealership says it's a $2,400 if nothing else gets broken during the job. I am NOT looking forward to doing this to mine.
Thanks AWAR! When you say the dash has to come out, do you mean the dark section around the gauges and stereo, or do you mean the whole dashboard (the tan part)?
Also, how long and how difficult it it to remove the HVAC box?
Thanks!
Hi everyone! I am hearing a clicking and occasional light thump under the dash. This only occurs is the temperature is change from hot to cold, or cold to hot. Most of the time the sound stops after a minute or so. Does not occur when the any vent selection change is made. I can switch it from...
Hi Hamfisted, I have an EB 5.4 with the dual zone climate control. Are the actuators the same part number? I just replaced the one on the top of the HVAC housing (kinda behind the glove box). Still have door bumping sounds. Maybe I changed the wrong one?
https://www.blueovaltrucks.com/tech-articles/everything-you-wanted-to-know-about-the-iwe-system-and-then-some/ Maybe this will help with your troubleshooting. Also I recommend a smoke machine. Invaluable for finding vacuum leaks.
Good luck!
With 204k mi, it would be worth checking all the vacuum lines. Especially the big elbow on the back of the intake (I can’t remember if it’s connected to the throttle body or the intake manifold, buts it’s back there.) Check all the rubber elbows, hard lines, and connection points. There could be...
Finished. No more SES light or P0170 and P0174 codes. Runs great, but there is quite a bit of steam coming out the tail pipe. I'm hoping that it's from coolant that found it's way into the cylinders when I removed the intake manifold. I'll drive it around and check it tomorrow. Goes without...
Could someone help me confirm the torque specs for the throttle body assembly and intake manifold? I have found the following online:
Throttle body assembly = 7 ft lbs
Intake manifold, 1st = 85 in lbs, 2nd = 18 ft lbs
Thanks!
I recommend Crutchfield . Look for an install kit for the type head unit that you are installing. Way easier than trying to figure out and splice the wires.
I found a new Motorcraft manifold at a local dealer! $255.01 out the door! So thankful!
Inspecting with my novice eyes, the seals appear to be intact. No obvious signs of leaking. Hoping the plugs look normal when I take them out tomorrow.
So far it's not too difficult. It's meticulous, but it's...
Started on this project today. It's going pretty well except for one of the nipples broke off the EGR pressure feedback sensor while removing the hose. The plastic is brittle and crumbles easily. Ordered new Motorcraft sensor. However, more importantly... I cannot remove the coil from cylinder...
Getting ready to start this job today. Thankfully the garage has warmed up to a toasty 42 degrees. LOL.
Based on forum posts, it doesn’t seem super common for injectors to fail, but it does happen.
Nobody’s mentioned it yet, so I thought I’d ask. Should I replace the injectors while I’m there...
Copy on the injector O-rings, torque wrench, crossover gasket, thermostat, Zerex G-05, hose on the rear of the throttle body, and spare plugs for injector/coil connections. Thank you.
Seems like Motorcraft spark plugs are hard to get around here. My local Napa Auto has NGK Iridiums, Ruthenium...
Thanks whtbronco. Great input! Thanks for looking up and posting the hours.
Thanks Hamfisted. Excellent idea.
Actually, I discovered the following YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJJTlDrCaUQ by FordTechMakuloco. It doesn't seem like it's too bad of a job. If the book says 6 hrs like...
Thanks riphip. Many of the hoses, elbows, and the PCV have been replaced. I specifically looked for smoke behind the battery. As far as I can tell the vac/evap systems are intact.
Yes, I looked for several minutes with a bright flashlight. I scanned every hose that I could put my eyes on. There may have been a little bit of smoke at the last cylinder, same side, but I couldn't tell if it was a leak or if it was smoke carried over from the IAC. The brake booster, vac...
Great idea Hamfisted!
I inserted the smoke at the top of the throttle body elbow as suggested. I got smoke from the usual suspects - IAC, EGR and side of the throttle body, but no smoke at the brake booster or booster hoses. However, I did find smoke coming out from under the fuel injector of...
