    Oil cooler

Typically, on these engines, when the oil and coolant are mixing (and you're sure you don't have a cracked head), then it's usually the gasket between the oil filter housing and the block. I had to change mine on my 99 right after I bought it. It wasn't fun, but it's not the worst job I've...

    cigarette lighter power

Short answer is it's not easy. You basically have to unplug the port from the factory wiring, then install a separate, key activated circuit and connect it to the port. I had this same issue with my 99 when I was trying to install a dash cam. I ended up just buying an install kit for the dash...

    Getting to the GEM

About 2 yrs ago, I had an electrical gremlin on my 1st gen that I looked for almost 3 months. I weas convinced the GEM was bad, and was even confirmed by a Firestone station. However, the Firestone would not replace the GEM because it had to be programmed by the dealer. When I took my truck to...

    Light Sensor Amplifier

Um..yeah....been doing that, but they don't work. So I need to know exactly how to test those sensors with a DVMM.

    Light Sensor Amplifier

Does anybody know how to test the light sensor amplifier...and actually the light sensor itself also, on my 99 EB ? I'm still trying to get my auto headlight feature to work, and I have narrowed down the issue to those 2 things, but I can't figure out how to test them.. Apparently neither are...

99 EB 5.4 intermittent shut down issues

I thought I updated this thread as SOLVED. I ended up finding a new PCM diode and PCM relay and replaced them both. I have not had the issue since replacing them.

No crank, no start, 99 EB 5.4

Is your odometer reading normal, or ---------------- ? My 99 EB was doing the exact same thing, and the odometer had the dashes. Tried a TON of things, but it ended up being either the PCM relay, or the PCM fuse. I don't know which one because I replaced them both at the same time. I forget...

99 Mach stereo subwoofer is 4 ohm

I saw that, but wasn't looking to go that deep....if I didn't have to. All I needed was the sub. I pulled the CD changer and switched out the head unit almost 10 yrs ago.

99 Mach stereo subwoofer is 4 ohm

I can't believe that after all these years nobody has posted (that I could find) exactly what the rating for the stock 1st gen Mach stereo subwoofer amplifier is rated for. For many years I just didn't care that the stock subwoofer was blown, but I finally decided to replace it and see what...

Not wanting it to be a head gasket

Plugs and COP's will cause a misfire, but so will bad injectors. They're electrical devices too, and can fail, not to mention the normal carbon buildup. The plugs and COP's have about 15,000 miles on them. I've ran injector cleaner through it multiple times over the years, but apparently...

Not wanting it to be a head gasket

New engine is in, and almost 500 miles put on it. I initially had an issue with the brand new engine running "warm"....in the area of 210-215F on an 85F day, running at 70-75 mph. After watching my gauges for about a week, I was hoping the issue was a faulty thermostat....even though it was...

    Radiator Replacement Question

Ok, here's the deal. My engine was just replace with a new 5.4 reman. It's having little "Mickey Mouse" issues with it that are getting tweaked. The one that bothers me though, it runs 200-205+ F at highway speeds, on a 85-90 degree day. My old engine ran 193-200 all day.....rarely over 200...

    99 4r100 Bypass Kit ??

Just had my transmission cooler lines replaced (including the bypass line) and now the trans is overheating. So I assume the baypass vavle isn't working. However, I cannot find a bypass delete kit specifically for my 99 EB 5.4, 4R100. All I have found have been for the 7.3 engines with the...

    Radiator Replacement Question

99 EB 5.4...supposedly with the tow package. The OEM radiator appears to be a "2 core" version. To me that makes no sense in a vehicle supposedly to be used for towing. Regardless, I need to replace it. Should I go with a larger, single core or double core unit as opposed to a 3,4,5 row unit...

Not wanting it to be a head gasket

Yep, afraid so. It ended up being a cracked head. Because of the design of the truck and engine, I found out that (in my area at least) is was $1,000 MORE in labor cost to replace the head/ head gaskets, than to replace the engine. So after much research, I decide to just put in a reman...

Not wanting it to be a head gasket

Tried playing with the heater this weekend. Heat was normal, and didn't see any changes in engine temp one way or the other.

Not wanting it to be a head gasket

Yeah, honestly, I'm learning more towards cracked heads than a cracked head gasket. Anytime a head comes off my vehicles, it gets magna fluxed and x-rayed. It's stupid not to.

Not wanting it to be a head gasket

I have an SCT X4 plugged into the OBDII port AND an aftermarket temp gauge on my A pillar. Both gauges read within 4 degrees of each other. The X4 does not indicate any stored codes. I have an older version of FORSCAN, but I haven't hooked it up because I didn't know if it would show me...

Not wanting it to be a head gasket

I've owned the truck for about 8 yrs, and it operated correctly.........until recently. No changes in driving habit, etc. I do a fair amount of towing about 5,000 lbs with it, but I hadn't pulled anything for at least a month prior to this issue starting. Water pump and other parts (except...

Not wanting it to be a head gasket

My issue started before the change. I was concerned about flow, that's why I went with the new/ bigger radiator, and other replacement parts.
