Fun job…I’ve been there a few times. Of course, it’s a great opportunity to do roller followers and lash adjusters if it’s in the scope of budget and future plans for the car. And if you do the oil pump, I’d avoid the Melling HV variant. My story with that thing was posted long ago and...
Wow. So, you have a wrecked 06 Navigator and a 06 Expedition contributing to a 03 Navigator rejuvenation? Or is the 06 Expedition now in a condition it’s a usable vehicle and no longer a donor? I’m impressed with everything you have done.
Is it 4WD? I'm grasping here but if it is 4WD could the additional heat be affecting the vacuum actuated Integrated Wheel Ends (IWEs)... If you're up for it, put it through a stress test if there are roads in your area that allow for, let's say, multiple panic stops from speed. I did that...
I believe you have to replace the cover on the ‘05 and up to replace the PCV. In my ‘06, I ran it through the parts washer until the check ball moved freely. Haven’t had any PCV issues that I’m aware of.
You'd think there would be a stored code. Be on the lookout for a P030X code where X is the misfiring cylinder. Cylinder #1 is forward on the passenger side, #4 is aft passenger side, #5 is forward driver side and #8 is aft driver side. You'll want to determine how many miles are on the spark...
My experience is this is a classic case of misfiring due to ignition. My 2006 when I first got it with 70K miles didn't like high load at high RPM...I'd occasionally see the flashing check engine light. Replacing the spark plugs fixed everything. They were shot at 70K miles. Last time it...
The M340HV seems to work for everyone but me. It must have been a stuck relief valve...or maybe my bottom end is tighter than everyone else's...ha ha. It's in the past now, the M340 is working just fine. I'll say it again, a Melling high volume pump separated my Bronco's FL1A oil filter's...
2006 XLT 4WD here. I went through this about a year and a half ago and still have imperfect braking. Symptoms were pedal slowly went to floor when engine running but firm pedal once there was no vacuum to the booster. I was convinced based on previous experience the rear brake ABS circuit...
I must be the only one in the world that’s had that happen. Great to hear it worked for you. I was shocked when FORScan lite showed both banks at 55 degrees. And unplugging the solenoids didn’t change anything. I put a Melling M360 high pressure pump on in 2017 and that pump never caused an...
I’d drop the spare tire and look closer at the EVAP Canister nest. It doesn’t look like anything above the fuel tank, and doesn’t look like something Ford used in coolant lines. It’s certainly nothing from under the hood…mine is an ‘06 and have replaced every coolant and vacuum line from the...
@whtbronco thanks and confirmed, it's a vent. The bitter end was hiding under the low pressure a/c switch out of view. I know at least where the driver's side vent is located...
You probably won't find the IWE vacuum line assembly listed under Expedition. I looked, and looked... It fits my '06 just fine. Something to keep in mind, when in 2H and engine on, vacuum is being applied to the IWE's via the line coming from the solenoid. That's going to give you a mild...
It's hard to see, just took that picture. The rubber elbow next to the low pressure a/c sensor is on the actuation line coming from the solenoid. You're looking for a vacuum line that's wrapped with black flexible conduit, probably has fallen down behind the valve cover/engine; the connection...
Here's a photo I took during my multi-phase project last year. 2006 Expedition XLT with 4WD. The battery and vacuum reservoir are removed. Source vacuum line enters from the right side. Following the 1/4" source black line from right to left: first black vacuum tee is for HVAC, 2nd tee is...
Agree with @whtbronco. The P0420 is usually definitive—the cat is bad and it could range from the cat being polluted (Kia Soul owners) to the substrate coming apart. Not often it’s the downstream O2 sensor. The only reliable way to determine if it’s come apart internally is either full or...
The only fluid I have seen spill onto the ground due to temperature change is coolant. My RV, Bronco, Passat are all offenders. I’m also wondering if barometric change is a factor. Only thing I can think of is maybe a head gasket, but I’d think there would be secondary indications if that...
I faced the same tensioner dilemma last year when going into the 3V to replace the lash adjusters--one was making noise only when cold--and also to ditch the 80 psi M360 I put on in 2017. There's a Ford Tech Talk (not Makuloco) video on YouTube that goes into the relationship between the...
Starting in '05 Ford ditched the fuel pump relay in the junction box and went with a Fuel Pump Driver Module, mounted on the frame rail behind the left rear wheel. As @Vincent Vega noted, corrosion can be a real issue given the FPDM's location. One of the parameters I monitor in Forscan Lite...
This post got me thinking because I've noticed it seems Ford consolidated certain modules during the 2004-2006 time frame. My '06 Ford Workshop Manual says the TPMS module is integral to the Vehicle Security Module/VSM and it's located behind the Right Hand A-Pillar lower trim panel. I've...
