Take the belt off and let it run for a minute and see if the noise changes.

Get a mechanics stethoscope or short piece of hose to listen though and check components in the engine bay. I'm thinking it's a bad bearing, maybe in the alternator or an idler pulley. Or maybe a failing brush in the alternator.
