If you do not need the AWD there are several easy ways of deactivating. Easieast is to pull out the transfer case fuse or any fuse that controls the system.

overdrive off light on the shifter

Guys, the O/D light has a dual role. - to indicate that the OD is off - TCIL - Transmission Control Indicator Light - if the light stays on or it flashes regardless of the OD switch position it indicates trouble with the transmission. Is similar with the "check engine" light for the engine...

    Rear end differential metal

FORD do not manufacture anything else but engines. Like any other auto manufacturer, all parts are bought from "outside" vendors and put together on the assembly line. DANA is a major axle manufacturer and supplies almost every mfg. from Honda to GM including Ford. There is no such thing as a...

    Rear rotor removal

It takes a hammer and a good rotor pounding. Do not worry about breaking anything, it is pretty solid.

    Cross drilled rotors for Expy

Did anybody replaced their OEM rotors with Cross drilled rotors ? If yes, what was your experience. I have to change the rotors soon and I would give the drilled ones a shot... Thk

what brand/type shocks to buy ?

I want to replace all 4 shocks on my 1997 Expy, 4WD, without air suspension. Current tires are Goodyear wrangler RT/S but I plan to change them soon to Michelin LTX M/S. Lots of highway driving, moderate off-roading and occassional trailer pull. I know there are several options out there but...

Is my 98 Expy better offroad than a 2004 Expy?

I also believe that the '03s do not seem very capable of though off-roading. My '97 with 180K is doing fine and I would not change it for the new ones.

    1998 Anti-Theft System Problems

Hi, I have similar problems with the anti-theft system. However, mine are more cold related (overnight in winter). When the light is blinking, the theft system does not recognize the key (each ignition key has an embedded chip) I think that the proper way (and expensive) to do it is to have...

lubricant for front/rear axles - differentials

does anybody knows if periodical lube change is required for rear/front differentials. according to the manual they are lubricated for life, however a tech told me that they require regular oil changes similar with tranny/transfer case. I do not trust his expertise though. I know that the axles...

    1997 - Oxygen sensor

Oh yes, I did it about a week ago. It was the one on the passenger side..unfortunately...It was not a big deal to take it out, however it took us over 2 hours to put the new one in and reconnect the wiring harness. The sensor on the driver side seems like a walk in the park.

    1997 Expedition Steering/suspension

I have to admit that you were right. The Tire Decal for canadian cars is quite confusing with all the bilingual (engl/french) info and also metric/imperial values. Actually, I took 2 of my co-workers out in the parking lot and show them the label. None of them could figure it out. However...

    Tune Up...

I changed the plugs on my 1997/5.4 at 150K. Did it with a friend, something like a 3-hour job, it is tedious but can be done with the proper tools. I could not get original Motocraft in time, so I used Champion. So far so good

    1997 Expedition Steering/suspension

This is something I have never heard of. My door decal speicifes all tires for 30 PSI, however is 35PSI - at cold - that means when temperature outside is below 30 . I am not aware of different tire pressures for front/rear. Maybe you misread the label. Anybody on the list with any...

Upper and Lower Ball Joint Replacement

I just had lower ball joints changed about a month ago. 97 Expy with 140K miles. I don't see any way of doing it without taking off the rotors (actually the entire assembly is disconnected off the CV joints) For the lowers it takes about 45 minutes/side As of replacement frequency it all...

97 eddie bauer with huge problems

The issue with windshield leakage is documented in TSB 99-2-3. They don't mentioned the electrical problems, but they state that: "This may be caused by a skip or a void in the production sealer somewhere around the periphery of the windshield." So, how to fix it ? - Apply a bead of Liquid...

    1997 Expedition Steering/suspension

This is how it works: The power steering system is a hydraulic assist to the mechanical linkage. The power steering system is equipped with an electronic variable orifice (EVO) integrated in the power steering pump. As the vehicle speed increases the EVO closes to reduce the hydraulic power...

    4.6L Coil Pack FRUSTRATION

to continue the previous message... According to TSB 962523 (12/02/1996) there is a problem with water in the spark plug well. Based on the TSB date this was detected pretty early !!!!!!!! Also, the same TSB states that the issue is eligible for coverage under the Bumper/bumper warranty and...

    4.6L Coil Pack FRUSTRATION

According to FORD, 50% of COP coils returned for warranty do NOT have a problem. However, to properly diagnose the problem, the tech's should use the WDS (worldwide diagnosis system) COP kit. It really takes the guess out of diagnosing engine misfire etc. Unfortunately not every Dick and Harry...
