Replaced the solenoid (No change) and the check valve - I had to wait for the check valve to arrive - it was the check valve. Inside was a bunch of rusty looking dust that was preventing a good airtight seal. It all works now, no problemo.
Thanks ALL!
Hi ALL,
Bilstein 4600 fronts, non adjustable (24-197717) need lower spring seats but the stock front shocks have welded seats and I can't buy the seats I need.
I tried FORD and they tell me the stock front shocks don't have removable seats?
Are the seats available from any where after market? I...

I would suggest a hair dryer or heat gun...
The glue on these is pretty tough, it is doing a great job sticking to s smooth surface.
Heat will be a challenge for most glues and it usually causes it to weaken if not release completely...
I bought this trailer 2016 Starcraft 28BHS and drove for 8hrs
It came with a load leveling hitch and weighs about 6000lbs
Seems OK on tow... Waiting for my Bilstein 5100 to arrive from ESSEX Canada
Is there really much difference between the GEN3 and GEN4 Expedition
I can get GEN4 Bilstein 5100 shocks - if they will fit OK I will go with those
Anybody want to chime in?
Cheers
Hi ALL
I talked to BILSTEIN and they don't agree with 5100 for the 2012 MAX - they have 4600 regular non-adjustable.
Sooo... not sure how to proceed? Does anyone have the 5100 part number that will work for me?
PIC is my loaded MAX with trailer and the butt is saggy... it is 1" low when empty...
I have a positive result... the check valve fixed the problem.
So fo $90-$100 I have diagnosed and fixed the issue with the vacuum front hubs.
So the question now is: where is the rust dust coming from? Is this normal? Can I control the dust somehow or do I just replace the check valve when it...
Replaced the check valve and it was full of rust dust.
I could see the ends of the tubes in the rubber fittings had rust colour so, I cacked open the check valve.
It has a rubber diaphram inside and seemed able to stop flow one way...it was full of red dust and I imagaine that is stopping
it...
i bought the solennoid and installed, the check valve is ordered and on the way.
1st test drive, going 6 hours pulling a trailer, about 2 hrs into it, the hubs started as per usual.
Switching to 4A stops the noise and after about 2 minutes to let it settle each time switched back to 2H.
It...
I did this with my Dodge pickup truck, in the cab - I used the garden hose first to fill the truck with as much water as possible with the dorrs open and watched the white water drain out until it became clear. It's not a matter of water maybe causing a problem, milk will cause electrical...
Thanks for that insight...
Looks like te solenoid/selenoid was just replaced so I am going on with check valve and vacuum line leaks.
If anyone else has thoughts, please chime in!
Thank in advance!
Cheers Clive
Hi ALL
I have an odd(?) problem - enough about me!
2012 Expedition MAX - pulling a trailer, long drives (600km Toronto- Gore Bay) after about 2hrs, like it's on a timer(?) I feel a chatter
in the pedals, here what sounds like road noise, chatter, buzz... and it comes and goes, usually on...
Hello I am looking at the Bilsteins
Bilstein Canada website (Essex in BC) has my EXPY MAX 2012 listing only B 4600 shocks front and rear.
I am looking at the 5100 for the rear to get a little adjustment as I am 1" lower in the rear currently empty and the trailer tongue weight
puts more front...
Ps. I was on the scale with this setup and the empty-ish weight was 8200lbs - I dropped 400lbs of metal at the recyclers it was 8600lbs
going into the facility
About the hitch setup:
I am looking at the torsion bar CURT etc.
There is not enough room for that stuff on my setup because I'm running a 5" drop tow hitch to keep the trailer only slightly high in front, about 2" lower in back. PIC included
For now, I am putting some SUMO type things in the rear springs to help out while I figure out what next.
Thanks for the info - I don't have a spring compressor, I do have an electric impact driver. Not sure about the breaker bar technique?
Thank you!
I will be doing something like this, not in my driveway, I don't have the tools.
Looks like the way to go in my case.
Thanks for good info.
Cheers
I found the receipt for new rear shocks July 28th 2020 p/n ASH-12293 so, I have no load level air suspension.
Can we I get stiffer springs to help the ride height and tongue weight etc.?
