@Shinerbokdoc thanks for the shout out! As for the ~1 year update, everything is still going perfectly with it! TBH I was a little on edge about the cheap-o head unit since a lot of reviews for the various cheap ones on amazon said they started smoking after a while and living in Phoenix doesn't...
oh dude, turns out they were so cheap the item doesn't even exist on amazon anymore haha. The brand was Philtop (garbage, I know) and they were pretty much the only ones I saw that were blue. So if you see cheap blue tubular UCAs that's probably the same just rebranded. Also it's worth noting...
I guess I've just never been exposed to this before for some reason... between 2 cars I used to have (2003 & 2007 Ford Tauruses), my current daily driver (2019 Chevy Impala) and my fiancé's car (2019 Buick Encore) none of them have had a total freakout with a dead/dying battery. my Expy is 2011...
Welp… I guess all the system warning lights got me overthinking things…
Battery was cooked. Not sure how it went from healthy to worthless over the course of a month but that was the cause. I’ve never seen a dead battery wig out a vehicle so bad. Hope this thread helps keep someone else avoid...
Well, got myself a real head scratcher on my 2011 Limited EL 4x4. I think the post's title says it all but I'll re-state the issues below:
No crank, no start, and I get a "check brake system" message with the associated dummy lights. When I push "reset" to clear the message it flashes "Service...
As for anything in the suspension with a joint, I have swapped everything to greasable Moog joints. Sure, it's another maintenance item but I simply don't believe in sealed, greased-for-life ball joints especially considering the weight of the vehicle and how hard I get into the beans out on BLM...
Ok yeah so the notes you have in bold are related to TCCM reprogramming which is for electronic shift on the fly which we don’t have on our rigs. We’ve got torque on demand.
So when you do this the TSB 24-2188 procedure for torque on demand your IWEs have no choice but to always be engaged. As...
Well TSB 22-2219 and TSB 24-2188 (which supersedes 22-2219) both say to remove the vacuum supply line and cap it off. If that doesn’t delete the function of the IWE, I’d love to hear a description of how it doesn’t.
So IWE delete? I didn’t even think that it might be the IWEs. The noise I’ve had in the past when I had a hole in the vacuum line was only at high speeds so I guess if it is them, the noise wouldn’t similar.
The grinding only happens in very specific, reproducible scenarios so next time I drive...
Nope, still clicking away.
I’m not experiencing anything adverse electrical or otherwise but I just don’t like that it’s happening because idk if it’s doing something bad or hurting the rig somehow…
So in 4A the IWEs are dropped engaging the front axle, the transmission is geared to supply power to the front axle BUT the clutch in the transfer case isn’t engaged. So sure, you’re putting wear on the chain connecting the transmission to Tcase and front drive components but those are designed...
Lolz, just realized I’m a goober and used the “piece”. Let’s try again, “peace of mind”* hahaha
But that’s exactly why I wanted greasable. Like, there is definitely some quantity of wear on the ball joint so if you’re not moving the grease with metal particulates out of there, it just hangs out...
Sounds like a IWE vacuum leak (super common).
If you’re in a pinch, 4a will get you by for the time being without any damage. This works because the vacuum is dropped engaging your front hubs to the front axle but the transfer case will only engage output power if it senses your tires slipping...
Things I’ve done on my 2011 Limited EL 4x4 that you haven’t already listed:
1) grill guard: keep an eye out on marketplace/craigslist for F-150 guards, they fit with minor mods. I picked a big ol F-150 grill guard up on Craigslist for $40 and just had to cut 1/2” slits in the bumper for the...
Ah sorry I’m too late but I had this same issue. I really didn’t want to start screwing with those steering rack bolts and I realized the connector/knuckle of the intermediate steering shaft was the actual part that was in the way.
So I spent 5 minutes taking off the intermediate steering shaft...
Hi all, I’ve got a 2011 Limited EL with 4x4 and I’m planning on checking out my wheel bearings this weekend because sometimes I get weird grindy noises up front when turning and all the suspension/steering components seem tight from a cursory check (opened a door and used it as a lever to shake...
Those are the same ones I used for my timing job (verified against your link), and it came in the same packaging. That's the one FTM recommends and it's the amazon ford store so I didn't have any worries about loading them in. As for the off-center port I must not have the eagle eye that do but...
so the M340 is the "correct" one but the M360HV is the high volume one FTM recommends which is what I used for this job. He recommends it to pair better with the updated ford roller followers and to get higher pressure through the small oil passages. The inside of my engine was pretty clean with...
Did you get the stethoscope yet? I feel like you haven't because you would have at least found the area it's coming from if not the exact component within 5 minutes.
Harbor Freight - Mechanics Stethoscope
It's not even $10 so go get one and post a pic of the area you're hearing the noise...
https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-air-deflector-bl1z8310b
yeah yours looks pretty beat, a jury rigged repair of that would be more than $30 of effort, just get it new. Plus, that $30 is for OEM. You can probably get it way cheaper non-OEM and this is the sort of part that I...
I was thinking crank shaft position sensor but didn't realize the cam sensor would prevent a start as well. But since OP said he's taken it to a mechanic, a monkey with a scan tool could pull that DTC to put you on the right path.
I find it hard to believe that it's not throwing any codes so...
It says you're in Michigan but Facebook Marketplace is super ripe out here in Phoenix which is how I got my expy.
These desert vehicles are rust free and the "high" mileage is allllll highway. It's several hours to go anywhere notable and the roominess of these vehicles is absolute gold for...
So what if you removed the steering aspect from the situation?
Try this: park somewhere with a straight-a-way that you can go forwards and reverse without messing with the steering. Come back the next day after everything is nice and cold, reverse straight for 20ft and then put it in drive and...
Yeah I think that extra storage space is a EL/Max thing. The compartment with the jack doesn't have much space room and that one is right up against the tail gate. The extra storage compartment is between the 3rd row and the jack compartment.
That kit is worth its weight in gold if you ever...
