Well, I can answer my own question. The whole door panel needed to be lifted off, but it is not necessary to unplug any electrical connectors, if you gently lower the panel to hang on the wiring. 07 Expedition 2WD Trans
Truck has about 2K miles on it and just started not shifting into the top gear (6th). Tried toggling OD on and off, but no effect.
