good information One question? Where would the average driver get nitrogen when on a 1000 mile trip?

most if not all dealerships now-a-days sell cars with nitrogen in their tires meaning they should have it in their shop. also check with Gateway Tire if there is one around you or i can't believe i'm even going to suggest it but maybe even a Firestone. before going to the dealer for nitrogen try Gateway first.

i believe people over inflate tires to change the rolling resistance of the tires.

I don't have a need for it as I haven't used nitrogen in my tires. The purpose of my question was where would you get it if a need arose as I have never seen it available at most stations where one could put air in tires. There are many reasons why anyone would need to have a tire re-inflated during a trip. having information available could be useful

Well I'd think if you needed air mid trip, then you have a puncture or a leaking tire. I'd personally be more worried about fixing that tire instead of trying to hopscotch between nitrogen filling stations with a tire that could let go and leave you stranded.

Besides air is already 78% nitrogen, but I probably shouldn't get into that debate.

I will be making a similar trip in the same direction next week. From San Antonio Texas to Miami Florida. I also plan on making it in a straight shot. Some of us road warriors simply enjoy the open road. I have an 07 Expedition Limited with 44k miles. This is my first Ford vehicle, but i have driven other F150's (company truck) with 100k+ miles on them, both long hauls and short hauls, with no problems. These trucks are truly made to withstand just about anything you can throw at them. I work in the oilfield business and run these trucks through some of the roughest terrain imaginable, for long periods of time (14+ hrs a day). Some companies run their trucks 24 hrs a day with no problem. You just need to keep up with the maintenance.

Like some of the suggestions stated, check your fluid levels and tire pressure. I plan on running my tires at 39 psi (cold) for my trip. Set your cruise and enjoy the ride. You definitely want to bring some extra cash in your pocket. Everyone blows their budget in Disneyland. Hope you enjoy the trip.

took a trip from right outside memphis, TN to Orange Beach, Al and then to Pensacola Beach, FL and finally back to memphis, TN without a hiccup. gotta say that my Expedition has giving me nothing but great pleasure so far. driving with nitrogen in my tires and 5 psi over spec, no tpms light and nothing but smooth riding. good luck to you all taking trips!
