While driving along, my expedition randomly loses acceleration! The pedal just goes dead and I pull off the road and it either keeps going or dies. But then it starts up until it decides to do it again.

I had it in the shop for a month - no codes but spent $100 on fuel so they could duplicate the problem. Once that happened, still they had no idea what is causing the acceleration/pedal to go dead.

I'm still driving it, but dangerous if it happens during a left turn or heavy traffic. Any ideas?

My dad used to be able to diagnose ANY ISSUE - but lost him to lung cancer. ):

Thanks! Rae PS Im a girl with limited auto knowledge so acronym may not be completely understood. One Forum said COP unit (?)was the issue but need to confirm from anyone else having this issue.

I've heard of a similar issue with Mustangs. For them it's usually the throttle body itself. The throttle body isn't directly connected to the pedal. It's a drive by wire system.

Thanks! - It looks like a throttle body can be cleaned, may be clogged. It looks like a sturdy part that wouldn't necessarilly need to be replaced unless cleaning doesn't do the trick.. would you agree?

If it is drive by wire then I would suspect the throttke body as well. If a cop was going out then it would still move under its own power. It would just run like poop since it is firing on 7 cylinders.

Cleaning is a good place to start. But more then likely it's on the electronic side of the throttle body. Once those start going then the only thing to do is replace it. If the throttle body is the same as what's on the Mustangs then you can probably find someone selling one cheap.
