2015 Expedition EL transmission leak

Strange prob. I got home yesterday and noticed trans fluid leaking from underneath the wifes expedition. Got under it and it looked to be coming right above a small plastic drain catch type thing. I got a couple paper towels, mopped it all up, then no more leaking.

It cooled down, then later I drove it around 45 or so mins, no leaks
wife drove it this morn also for about 45 mins....no leaks.

Anybody had something like this happen?

Don't have that problem but I do have a fluid leak out one of the 1/2 shaft bearings on my 2003 rear differential. I've been monitoring it. It will not leak at all if I drive around town BUT if I get on the highway and drive at speed it will leak. The type of driving completed can be a factor in a fluid leak.

wife just drove all around this morn and no leaks. It has me concerned because it was coming out pretty good yesterday. Not sure what to do at this point, or no idea where to look to see what the cause might be.

Likely the bulkhead connector/fitting/sleeve/whatever it's called. It's the thing with all the wires running through it on the rear passenger side of the transmission above the pan gasket. It's an easy fix but you have to drop the pan. While it's dropped, might as well replace the screen.

Part is $20, screen is cheap, and the fluid is whatever that costs you.

A bug got inside the trans and probably plugged the leak for awhile

They stop leaking when they run out of oil. ;-) I'd pull your dipstick and give it a lookie see. Might have just gotten hot and puked a little out around a seal or something and won't do it again.

That's exactly the symptom. It'll not leak if the truck is regularly driven but will if it sits for a week or so and the fluid seeps back into the pan.

Leave the truck sit in a new spot and don't use it for a week and see if there's a new puddle.

I'll try that. I keep checking it and haven't noticed a drop since. Very weird to say the least.

If nothing else it's worth getting under there and cleaning stuff up to hopefully help isolate the issue if you do have another leak in the future.
