I have a 2018 expedition that has a knock when giving it throttle in park I also pulled the valve covers to inspect the cam phasers and VVT solenoids I found that the solenoids all have a couple of metal shavings on the screens and also found ford only replaced 3 cam phasers one is old but found a concerning amount of metal flakes and shavings in my oil all of which were magnetic my truck has 133k miles on it I will try to add the video of the noise in the comments has anyone else had this problem?
here's a video

Unfortunately that sounds like the 5.4 I just replaced the crank and rods in. Quiet with no load and low rpm, noisy above 2500?

The person I bought my Expedition from told me he replaced one rod bearing and it still made noise. That was an understatement, the rear six rods were black halfway to the piston and the crank oil holes were packed with bearing material. Did they replace the oil pump and pickup in your engine when they did the timing? I realize that your problem may just be with the repairs done but that noise sounds deeper to me.

all they did was three phasers cause it was warranty I still have one old phaser everything else is original, also listening with a stethoscope it sounds like its coming from the bank 1 valve cover

I don’t know anything about that engine. However I am glad they did not put the 4.5 PowerStroke v6 in this chassis in the 2003-2006 models because I would have bought one then. I also would have hated it with as many 6.0 PowerStrokes I worked on from 2004- 2025 at the Power company. My 5.4 3v went 240,000 before the accident and is now in my other 06 adding up trouble free miles.

the 6.0L will break the tires loose easy they have a ton of torque and the 2v 5.4L will run forever but I like the power of the 3v 5.4L more so I guess you pick your poison

I think after 20 years there are some solutions to the high pressure o-ring problems on the International Diesels. They do make good power and will run more miles than a 6.7 Ford Diesel. The 6.7 has main bearing problems over the long run.

The 7.3 is the best one that they used. They all have their own issues, you just have to pick your battles. Of course that was before they had to abide by the ever increasing emission laws. The first GM Isuzu Duramax engines were also excellent. The P pump Cummins are also great. Some like the common rail later Cummins but with the smog stuff removed. I was working on a Ford and International fleet for 21 years until I retired. The 7.3 engine was good, the 4R100 was not up to the job. The two/three split was too big in a heavy truck. The 4r100 works okay in my 4 cam Navigator. I do miss the 6HP-ZF automatic that was in my original Navigator. It was perfect for 240k miles.

we have a 2009 f150 that had a engine put in at 269k miles and now needs a transmission at 274k miles cause of torque converter shudder those things are pretty bulletproof the engine failed cause a timing chain guide broke and stopped up the pickup tube with plastic chunks so we threw a engine in it
