I believe you have to use a weight distribution hitch to get to 9000. 6000 without.

Wonder if current 3.5L ecoboost could be tuned to match the output per displacement of the 2.3L Focus which produces 350hp. That would mean the 3.5L ecoboost could produce about 532hp. WHOOHOO!!!

Mike from what I've read, the standard engine will not take the extra horsepower. It has something to do with the lower end not being strong enough to take the pounding of anything above 400 HP.

It would make sense from an SKU standpoint for Ford not to have to stock different engines. It would nice to think they are all the same and they just change the software in the computer to get more HP. I'm not sure if it would be that easy though.

It’s probably a lot more cost effective to build a less robust engine and stock it versus building the more robust engine just to detune it electronically. Plus the added incentive for the buyer to buy the actual better built engine versus buying the cheaper one just to tune it for less money than the already tuned one from Ford. Buyers usually buy the stronger engine for the exclusivity as well not to mention putting the Raptor engine in the Navi sets it above the platinum Expy. Lincoln buyers want a Lincoln stand alone not just a dressed up Expy.

Can anyone confirm that they are putting Raptor engines in the Navigator? Or if they are any differences between the Gen 3 and Gen 4 engines? I thought I read the the Gen 4 engines have direct and port fuel injection now.

The 2nd Gen EcoBoost engines do have both direct and port fuel injection. From what I've read the port fuel injection cleans out the back side of the valves and eliminated the carbon build up.

You could be right but when you consider the economy of scale and the need to have all common parts for repair could ultimately help the bottom line. They just don't let the consumer know they are the same.

Does anyone have access to ford engine parts lists
It would take some time but you could compare the parts for the raptor engine & the explorer engines
Be interesting to find out if the block, heads, piston, cams, injectors & turbos along with other items are the same
If they are the same then it is likely ecu reprogramming would allow the 450 hp & 510 lb ft of torque for the expy.
That would cinch it for me

I think ford uses due diligence to make sure all of the high output 3.5L ecoboost engines will last just as long as the lower output versions. Was just hoping someone had access to the parts lists to determine what if any mechanical differences there are. Once I purchase one I definitely plan to tune it for the 450hp & 510lbft of torque. I guess if I have to replace some engine components to get there, that is what I will do. Maybe I can find & study the parts list somewhere. If anyone knows a site where I can get that information, I would appreciate a link to it.

I don’t know about that. I think normally the lower tuned engine *generally* will last longer as proven in both past and present production engines. What fun would the world be without the high outputs? They are more fun so hey, if you wanna do it cool.

Probably not until they are in full production. You could try the Fordparts.com website to see if they have any parts lists online yet.

transmission is the same across the line, so yes ecm changes for the trannsmission along with the engine items.

super duties all use the same transmission, but the 450 has a few different internal parts to handle the added ratings
