Hi all, new member, but not a new Expy owner. I had a 2006 that I sold many years back. Well, now I bought a 2004 that has 294,000 miles on it! Yeah, she's been driven, but I got it for about $900.00

Seems to run nice on and off the highway, body is good, sliding moon roof, etc. Service records are good. Doesn't leak or burn oil. I really just bought it for local work and not have to worry about scratches and dings. If I get a good year out of it I'll be happy.

Anyone else in this high-mileage club who can offer some thoughts, like, am I nuts for doing this or not? :)

Well at least you bought the last year two valve motor. If it was a 2005, I'd say Yikes! But apparently 2003 and 2004 are the best overall. The only issue is that damned fuse box, with the soldered relays. But that's an easy fix. Keep your oil clean, and don't dog it, and who knows you might see 400k plus on yours.

400K would be nice - no argument there. But I'll be happy with a year. I'm not looking to put any money into it and it won't be driven every day.

My van took a very unexpected dump and I had to get something quickly and cheaply until I can get something newer.

On the flip side, my 2003 Monte Carlo has only 48,000 miles on it. So I guess I've got two extremes going here.

102 years old ... doing kitchen renovations ... if you get my drift?

Brakes and tires are good, so I shouldn't have trouble with those, I hope.

There is a lot of good to say of the old 2 valve motors, mine has 190K and has never missed a beat mechanically. Keep oil and coolant clean and full and you should be good. please let us know if you have any failures (hopefully not)..

D46E9D8C-2A27-479D-9374-BACAF19B5EC0.jpeg I bought this high mileage 1997 Eddie Bauer Expedition 2 years ago. $2,000 including the snow blade. It has 197,00” miles. So far I’ve had to put one coil on, back right, real pain in the @ss.

No you’re not nuts.

I do like it but I bought as a work truck. Getting ready to take the insurance off of it and put it into storage until Thanksgiving.

In the meantime I’ll put that insurance on my high mileage 1997 Suburban. It has 160,000. I use it to pull my boat.
