I have a 97 expedition E.B. edition. If I turn on the headphones the headphones will get music but the speakers will not. I replaced the unit that changes from speakers to headphones and it did not help. Truck has the Mach audio system in it. I am thinking the amps are bad because when you turn it to speakers all I hear is a loud hum in the back and that is it. Any ideas? WHere are the amp(s)? New to the Ford gang. We had to get something bigger than our Land Rover Discovery because we are having another kid and can't fit three carseats in the back of my disco. Got the eb cheap or so I thought and now the thing is driving me crazy but at least it drives well.

I guess this is a pretty well known problem. My amp must be out as my stereo is putting out juice but it is not making it to the speakers. Amp was behind stereo and a ****** to get to. I did not remove it because that would be an AWEFUL job so instead I removed the wire harness plugs from the bottom of the amp. Now I need to know how to bypass the amp or where I can buy something that will work. I am not replacing the head unit because of the 6 disc changer and would like to keep it that way. I really do not need the speakers blowing my kids eardrums out!!

The best thing I can tell you guys is to buy a small, cheap amp from best buy or another good electronics store.. An aftermarket amp is just two wires to the battery, one to the radio to tell it when to turn on (remote wire) and just splice the speaker wires into the terminals on the amp. No harness or anything needed. If you need help, message me. You can find a wiring diagram to tell which wires are the speaker wires so you don't snip the wrong ones. Also, if there is a short somewhere in the line of your speakers, the sound will be VERY faint, so that may be it too.
