I was driving my 98 Expy when suddenly all the dashboard lights went out, the vehicle stalled out in the middle of the road. I put my flashers on then the battery died. It was towed to my home and still won't start. Anyone have a clue as to what might be going on.

thanks!

A battery that won't hold it's charge will overwork the alternator, leading to it's premature failure. If the battery is original, I would suggest that you replace it with the alternator. $$$$, I know, but a good idea.

Do you have any tools? With a simple volt meter you can tell if th alt. is working or not. You'll need a fresh charged battery so the truck will run. Place meter in DC voltage, start expy, place black lead on - terminal and red lead on + terminal. With good battery and good alt. voltage will read around 14volts. If you have 12volts or less, its the alt.

If it is, and you can do without the expy for a day, have your's rebuilt. Usually its just the brushes and most the time way cheaper.

Apparently, the alternator in my truck was the problem. After installing a new one, everything is back in working order. Many thanks to all that replied to my post!
