Advancetrac?

Hello everyone new to the Forum just recently purchased a 2012 Expedition King Ranch Non EL 4x4 Im a little confused on the Advancetrac functions. Today was the first major snow the button on the center console Just says TCS which turns it off to a certain extent i believe. Now this thing is supposed to have electronic stability control so i clicked the TCS button which turned on a light TCS off on the dash then stepped on it a bit around a corner almost completely spun the truck out i was under the impression ESC was supposed to stop this from happening? Or am i not sure how the system is actually supposed to function. Also even with the TCS off you cant spin the tires that much or it seems like traction control still kicks in so some Info on how the system works would be appreciated thanks Folks.
