Just got back from 3 week vacation and car is sat low ( been unused for 3 weeks) so I guess that ain't strange? The air Susp compressor doesn't fire up so am wondering why that would have suddenly died.... Anything else or obvious which may have seized with not using car?

Nope...unfortunately its time...last 7-10 yrs...do the conversion and never worry about anything else in the air ride suspension going out...I did it when my air failed... $1700 to fix...or $400 swap and only worry bout shocks

One More Note

On this subject, I too have had air suspension issues while I owned my '07 Expy--after some extensive reading I learned a few maintenance tips for those who have the self-leveling suspension. Personally, I had my last air-shock problem that cost an estimated $1200 to fix, but also had an engine decide to fail (at least start tapping/knocking noises--$8K to fix) at the same time so I decided to just give up and buy a new Expy (without self-leveling). Anyway, here's what can be done to possibly extend the life of the air suspension (while it's working):
- Keep self-leveling suspension turned off unless towing
- Check for signs of an air leak--such as the level going down
- Turn on the self-leveling every month or so--if the compressor stays on for a while, you may have a leak. If the car raises with the compressor on, you may have a leak. In either case, you may want to get your air-shocks checked and replaced, or see how long you can go with this routine. Changing shocks is cheaper than changing the compressor. If a leak persists, you can burn out a good compressor (been there, done that--twice).

I was just looking into converting to struts when my engine started to go--I suppose that was good timing.

The compressor is around $200 and pretty easy to change if you're mechanically inclined. However if the compressor is bad there is most likely a leak in the system that will mostly likely kill the new compressor as well. They are only built for a certain duty cycle and will overheat if run to often because of a leak and fail prematurely.

6K do you have any issues with rubbing with the lowering springs and wider tires?
