Bad outside/ambient temperature reading

We've a 99 4.6L Eddie Bauer 2WD, the outside temperature gauge recently stopped working, it always reads 65 F. Is there a way I can test the circuit before buying a replacement sensor?

find the sensor, mine is right behind the grill on the front of the truck... Unplug it and see if it changes the readout. It should peg one way or the other.... It should be a 2 wire sensor and maybe look like it is supposed to screw into something.
