Is it just me? Two things.. first, isn't the drive mode wheel spinning backwards? If you turn the wheel (in any direction) it just activates the drive mode selector and puts you in normal. But if you turn the wheel left (towards you) it actually moves the drive selection to the right - into mud. You have to spin the wheel to the right, to get to eco and then sport which are to the left of normal drive.

Seriously, isn't that backwards?

Also, is there a way to set your default drive mode so you don't have to select it each time? Isn't this something that should be easily programmed? Can I just not find out how to do it or does it always just default into normal each time? Seems odd not to be able to set your default drive mode - especially from normal, sport or eco modes.

Default is normal mode at each ignition/start cycle. UI seems intuitive to me when I think of the mode wheel as being indexed around how the modes themselves appear on the display. 1 click wakes it up in either direction, slight pause then 3 clicks right for tow, 2 for sport (then I almost always hit 2 H), one for eco. Have you looked into any of the Forscan threads or forums? I'd bet someone had figured out holding last mode selected as opposed to defaulting to normal each time you fire up.

I always turn it the wrong way too.

The EPA certified this vehicle in normal mode, so it HAS TO default to normal mode so you can't cheat the EPA. 5 Star told me this and they can NOT change that default with a tune. They can change a lot of things, but thats not one of them unfortunately. I wish I could lock mine in Sport as well.

Try having a Expy and my MIL has a Navigator. She always make me drive when we’re with her. The knob on the Navi turns opposite of the expy. I’m always putting hers in 4wd when trying to switch it to Conserve (eco) on trips.

If I turn my wheel clockwise the icons move clockwise. Counter clockwise it moves them counter clockwise. But I can see a person wanting go from normal to Eco and wanting to turn it to the left counter clockwise to select it as it is left of normal. But the screen only shows 5 of the 7 modes and moves the icons, not change the highlighted mode.

Is each turn of the know equivalent to a button push? If so, you could use a timer circuit to change drive modes.

agreed! What doesn’t make sense the ring of choices turns the same direction as the physical ring! Whatever one you position at 12 o’clock is selected. I’m not sure how it could make any more sense!
