I have a couple questions and 2 expeditions.

1. I have a 2008 expedition XLT, not sure if it’s an ssv with XLT package or a regular XLT. I’m looking to add the overhead dvd player. I know I need the bracket, dvd player, and the wiring harness at a minimum. Will everything just plug in? It does have the satellite radio in it and rear seat controls.

2. I have a second expedition I picked up for parts at auction but it’s too nice to use for parts. 2010 ssv w/ 90k miles on it. I am wanting to set it up as a dog car, light tow vehicle, backup, and adventure vehicle to go do stuff with the kids since it has rubber floors. Can I upgrade it as well with the overhead DVD player? And is there a way to add ford factory satellite? I like the factory interfaces and reliability.

I don’t have problems with wiring stuff up and have complete shop manuals for the 08. Not for the 10 yet. I am wanting to keep the police center console since I’m adding extra lighting to it, a winch, and some other off road goodies. Just trying to figure out what I’m getting into.

In the 08 and probably the 10, the ford DVD is just a small single screen that drops down in the middle of the car between the 2 front seats. My kids soon grew tired of it and we bought an aftermarket system with a screen that hangs on the back of each front seat. Bigger screen, easier to see and they just plug their headphone’s into the screens. The original ford DVD player is not worth the cost or effort to install in a car that doesn’t already have it. The aftermarket units are cheaper, bigger and better.. the wireless headphones are a nice touch on the Ford, but I still fell it would be a waste to install a ford unit given the cost.. just my opinion. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

I have a set of headrest DVD players with remote. I found them to be the best option as each player can play its own DVD rather than listening to the fight of which movie is going to be played.
I no longer have them installed. Contact me if you are interested in them.
