I have look on here but can’t seem to find anything on it (If I missed a thread please let me know).

I was wondering if Ford can not honor my power train warranty if I use Bar’s Leak, Blue Devil, Lucas, etc additives in my transmission or motor?

The dealership we purchased BG Carolina additive in the motor and fuel system so I would think that additives are fine but I was wondering what others have experienced?

Do not put ANY additives in the 10Spd Trans. It uses a different fluid than those before. No telling what an off the shelf additive will do to its properties.

No Bar’s Leak should ever be used in any modern vehicle. It is meant to plug a leak in vehicles already up in miles.

Lucas is OK stuff, but why? How many miles do you have, and what are you trying to accomplish?

Just looking to ensure adequate startup protection. I just bought a 2019 with 32,000 miles on it and I just want to make sure I get the most life out of it I can.

The BG additive that the dealer put in I will keep doing since they include a lifetime warranty with the use. They will cover up to $6,000 on failures related items that are lubed by the engine oil.

I’ve never had experience with the 10 speed ford transmissions so I was just curious. I just want to makes sure I keep it shifting smoothly.

If the additive is required by the dealer as part of the warranty, which doesn’t really make much sense to me, you should keep using that and not put any others in to the mix. Mixing additives is also not a good plan from a chemical standpoint.

It’s not a requirement from the dealer it is just something they offer and happen to do to mine before I purchased.

I have a 2019 XLT with the 202A package.

The BG business model is, use our additives, cleaners and equipment by one of our certified technicians when we tell you to, we will give you a $6K warranty. So the dealer uses BG’s equipment with their trans flush cleaner to get the oil out and help clean the varnish, and deposits out of it. Then they will put back in the called out oil. In this case the Mercon ULV. Pretty sure they don’t put anything else in it. Just during the cleaning/flushing process. If you do this at what ever interval they prescribe you get the $6K warranty if you have proof of all the qualifying services. So your are fine with that service. Pouring something down the dipstick tube in hopes of better performance or life out of the Trans. Not so much, the 10R80 is already finicky and had to get its own special oil. Pretty sure BG was not part of the design team.

Ok, like I said I’m new to the 10 speed transmissions so all this info is good to know. I will most likely continue the oil and fuel additives but not do anything with the transmission except change the fluid more often than 150k.

The main reason I was curious on the transmission was just due to while I drive the vehicle it feels like every now and then it shutters or hops a little when giving it more gas. Probably not even anything to do with the transmission.

This is my first turbocharged vehicle also.

The dealership only done a oil and fuel syste treatment from BG. They don’t offer a transmission treatment.

BG is top class. I used their products in my automotive days. I have also toured every factory they have, and my current company services some of their equipment. Their main facility is spotless. It’s the only additive I would recommend or use, with the occasional recommendation of Lucas in certain circumstances.

With that being said, and knowing about their warranty, I wouldn’t add it to the transmission until either the warranty is up or service is due. Fozzy is pretty much spot on.

Thanks, they don’t make anything for transmissions anyway.

What about the shuttering feeling I get ever now and the on acceleration, is that something I should worry about or is that common with turbocharged engines?

There really isn’t a need for additives in anything. You might check and see if you can still get an extend ford warranty from flood ford.

trans might take awhile to relearn the tendencies of a new driver or look into clearing it out so it can start fresh.

How do you clear it out? I know Hyundai and Kia learn the first 15 miles or so every time you drive.

I will be taking a trip the end of the week and it will be a good time to teach it. Lol

I don’t know and unhooking the battery can upset some cars, at least euro stuff. Not sure on a ford.

I can say my trans feels great, but I’m at 2500 miles. The problems I’ve seen on here seem to creep in at 10-15k. If there is a weak link I’ll find it.

If your that OCD about your vehicle, run synthetic oil. Brian Fordtechmakuloco says, make sure it's rated 'SN plus' on the bottle, for it's anti coking properties. Ford doesn't put a dipstick in the new trans. They don't want owners messing with them. I buy lucas fuel treatment by the gallon and add a ounce or two, for every 10 gal, fill up. It keeps everything clean and reduces the need for premium.

I agree that additives aren't usually necessary in most cases, but it’s always good to double-check the manufacturer’s recommendations. As for the Ford warranty, it's worth contacting Flood Ford to see if you're eligible for an extended one.

Some forums I visit lock threads after 1 year of inactivity. I think there's a setting in the XenForo admin control panel to do this automatically.

That's very true. I'm a moderator in a XenForo forum. We occasionally get post reports from users asking us to reopen a thread because they have additional info. We generally do so.

@bb37 We don't typically lock, because of exactly what @Fizzy mentioned. The generation of Expeditions span SO many years, that it just doesn't make sense. I routinely reply to threads from 2017 in the 3rd Gen area. Not uncommon around here.
