For anyone having an issue getting the liftgate to open consistently when trying to use the foot activated feature the key is to do the kick motion under the bumper and then immediately take a step or two back.

I couldn't get it to always work until I saw a dealer video on YouTube do a walkthrough and he pointed out that you need to take a step back after doing the kick. Liftgate opens every time consistently using this method.

I just raise my foot one time as if I am going to kick the bumper (without touching the bumper) right at the sensor location.

This is at the left side, midway between the hitch and the end of the bumper. Works 100% of the time!

Can you post a link to the video?

I can kick and step back, kick twice, pause...it works about 50% of the time. But if I have the keys in my pocket when I am washing it, that @#$&ing thing opens every time I am near the rear bumper.

TSB 19-2162 fixes the liftgate randomly opening when you are simply near the rear of the vehicle.

Mine was so inconsistent that I rarely attempted to use it after the first 30-40 days of ownership. But yesterday I was vacuuming the interior and had the all weather mats laid out in the driveway a few feet behind the Expy. Nearly every time my dog walked past the rear of the car, between the bumper and the floor mats, the liftgate opened! At 27" high and 100lbs, the dog was not passing under the bumper at all, merely brushing past it. I think I was doing it wrong.
