Glove Box

Something has caused my glove box to be very tuff to open and close. I see something on the side that is rubbing and probably causing the friction that makes it tuff to move. But, it is something that IS SUPPOSED TO BE THERE? I'm wondering if this part that is rubbing became mis-aligned or something?

How do you un-attached the box?

Can you post a picture? Or at least describe the part itself we're sitting here blind trying to figure what exactly you're talking about...

After posting my question I couldn't wait for replies. I finally figured out where the two 'tabs' were to allow the box to totally 'flop' down. The part I was referring to appears to be a 'glide/slide' that limits the box from flopping down when you open it. ITS A CHEAP plastic item: there is a sliding part that attaches to the box and supposedly has a bit of tension on it to allow the box to open slowly and smoothly. For some reason my 'slide' has gotten 'stiff' and so did not slide/glide easily. I tried the ole WD40 and it seemed to loosen the sliding a bit. I re-attached it to the box and it seemed to help. BUT............not for long. There is a bit of tension again and so the glide/slide mechanism is popping off the box; the 'snap' into place is not holding. So I have just unattached it permanently.

An inexpensive piece of plastic is cheapening my expensive vehicle??? I guess I could order a new part ...... but will have to figure out how to unattach the old one(it's easily seen) and how to pop in the new one?

WD40 is primarily a product to displace moisture - it has slight lubricating properties that quickly wear off.

Try lubricating the slide mechanism with silicone dielectric grease or some other non-petroleum based grease. Petroleum based grease will damage the plastic over time.

A dry lube or white lithium will work real well.
