I have a 1998 Ford expedition XLT 5.4 4×4 and it has not been properly maintained cooling system wise. It ran hot and popped a cht code fixed that. Then realized it was running colder than any vehicle I've ever seen, also the heat doesn't work. I tried to change the cts but to no avail, so as I'm flushing the system I take off the hose that connects to the bypass fitting which is maybe ¼ inch diameter and it's plugged completely, also the ¼ nipple on the throttle body is plugged. So I call my local Ford dealerships and they can't even order the parts I can't find it anywhere so I did a redneck bypass of the bypass so to speak. I used a piece of metal tubing and skipped the throttle body all together since I couldn't unclog it, since that the temp reads a little higher but still never gets to the middle gauge, maybe only ¼ of the way up, when driving it goes to the C mark. Im pretty sure my heater core is clogged and plan to bypass then change it when I have time/money etc. My question is does the coolant need to circulate through the whole system to work properly? Should I try another brand of CTS? But the way the CTS I bought didn't work at all so I went back to the OEM after cleaning. Standard is the brand of CTS used. Any help is greatly appreciated!
