I have a 2001 Expedition 4.6L 2V N/A. I have been dealing with driveability problems (see my other posts) that are from a lean condition. I am just getting back to work on this problem and have been shooting the parts cannon on hoses on the manifold vacuum due to age. I just replaced the PCV Valve with an OEM assembly XL3E-6C24-HA (with EV-233 PCV valve). As all know it is a PITA getting the rubber boot on the manifold. Thankfully my wife has small hands and she got it on in two tries.

So after I had removed the old assembly I noticed that in blowing through it from the manifold end (backfire mode) that the old valve sealed up quite tightly, while the new one allowed a lot of air to pass. I assumed the old valve had worn in and the pintle seated fully, blocking the inlet. This was not a very scientific test, just me blowing into the hoses and comparing. The old and new valves rattle. I doubt the original had ever been replaced since I bought it with less than 24K miles. I cannot read the markings on the original valve. The assembly is F85Z-6758A (or so it appears).

Did I buy the correct valve? Is the valve OK with leakage in the "backfire mode"? I see a lot of people discussing this on line with other vehicles. I would hate to have to remove and replace this again. My wife won't be happy certainly.

EDIT. I have a VIN "W" (Romeo Engine). According to fordpartsgiant I bought the correct PCV assembly/valve EV-233. However the part factory installed seems to be for an earlier model, maybe Windsor engine?

I doubt the pcv is a drivability issue on your Exp. Make sure all the intake air goes through the MAF. I will look for your other posts for lean.

My next plan after replacing the brake booster vacuum line is to remove and inspect the plenum duct for cracks in the corrugation. I have had that problem in a Ford Probe. Engine died when reversing or going over a speed bump. The hose would flex and the engine would lean out. Duct tape was the temporary fix.
