They are using another technology called NFC to control the door locks etc. It is not cellular like the APP is. Sort of like paying with Apple Pay but you open your doors and start your car or truck.

My wife’s 2020 Aviator has the “Phone as Key” feature. I imagine it will work it’s way to the Expy and trucks in a few years. My wife didn’t like it. She keeps her keys in a zipped pocket in her purse. If she forgets her purse will gabbing on the phone the car will not unlock. So she knows she left it somewhere.

I just let it run down to 2 minutes and added another 10 minutes.

Depends on the settings in side the vehicle. If your start cycle is set to 10 minutes, each press gets you another 10. If your cycle is 15, each press gets you 15 more. No matter the length you have the cycle set to your maximum runtime is only 30 minutes. So set to 10 you can extend 2 times, set to 15, only 1 time. Hope that clarifies it a bit.

Fozzy if you set your runtime in the remote start settings in the menu to 15, you would match the others.

Also, if your runtime is set to 5 minutes, you can extend 5 times...still totaling 30.
