So... I decided to replace the lifters on my 2010 Ford Expedition myself. I used a timing belt lock wedge tool to make it so the timing belt wouldn't move, unbolted the camshaft and lifted it off (while still connected to the cam phaser), and pulled off the rocker arms, then removed and replaced the lifters. I bolted the camshaft back down, careful that it went back the same way it came out (it stayed at it's same rotation), and checked that my mark on the camshaft phaser and timing chain didn't move, bolted the camshaft back on. The engine starts and runs great cold, but loses power when it warms up. The error codes that are showing up are p0012 and p0022. I know I must have got the camshaft and/or timing chains out of sync. What's the best way (is there a way) to reset everything, or check to see if they are out of sync?

Ok so Scott I posted about same troubles I'm having just after you. Here's what has occured on my 2010 exp.xlt. 5.4l 3v. I dug in and replaced roller followers, and lap adjusters, timing chains kit, pulled pan to get at a plastic timing chain guide which was broken off so⁸ new oil pump upgrade to high flow, my cam and caps were medium wear but i reused them. And new vtc solenoids I broke a valve stem while working with followers so had to pull head to fix that so I pulled both resurfaced it all and lapped the valves to seats. When done I was amazed at the difference . Ran so great and no more noises. 3rd or 4th day I ran it further and after 20 min when heated up (pen platinum synth. 5w30 weight Oil) I was suddenly in the condition you described. Rough idle, stalling, poor pick up and missing. Damm... So same codes p0022 p0012 only next start up it's running great. So if I had timing off that couldn't happing run great heat then fall off. Run great again etc. and everything new and replaced. Checked plugs on sensors and wires yeah maybe but before I started cutting or pulling covers again I thought about all the comments regarding oil viscosity and importance of it being clean. Codes listing oil low or changing as repairs for them both and all that cleaning is done did i really keep the crud i scrubbed out ? ?

Changed it and filter. Looked like oil after 2 or 3 thousand miles in less then 150 miles. !

Also very fine particles / powder bottom of the pan. So far it's running good but haven't been far. I'm now headed out to clear codes (022 and 012) I think are permanent currently so have to see. Check on your oil condition Scott. Wireing to VCT solenoids and cam position sensor. Cam might not be skipped if it runs right before heat up. I'll check back and post if I stayed right and performance does not go back to ****** idle after well heated. Crossing fingers, toes, nose hairs.. hopefully I'll have good news to report. I didn't get any comments yet on my post here but learned quite a bit on YouTube
Take care
