i know that my trucks not a race car but, when i smash the pedal to the floor, the truck only makes it to 4900 rpms before hanging there for a couple seconds( probably 10-12 seconds) then it decides to shift. shouldnt the truck get up to 6500 or close to it? im just wondering if im the only one with this problem

this has been a problem for about 5 months now and its driving me crazy. im not throwing codes either. and also i read on here about how people are getting 24 mpg? im getting 15.3 on the highway. could bad c.o.p.s be the problem and would that also link to the 15 mpg?

i also have the loud exhaust leak that ive heard our trucks are known for. i cant find anything wrong with either header or any of the pipe. could this have anything to do with the reason the truck is slower than a geo metro?

well if you hear an exhaust leak then its probably that. take it to a shop that can tell you what the problem is. if that dosent fix it it could be your fuel pump.

Two things on the long delay in the shift:

1st, you said it's been like that 4 5 months now. I'm assuming it never did that before? If that's the case, I would try a tranny flush and put new fluid it in.

If you don't recall it ever being normal then a factory reflash with latest updates may take care of it. My tranny used to shift pretty rough, particularly on the downshift and the flash updates seemed to cure that. The tuner should work too in this case but i'm not very familiar with them so I would listen to others on that.

yeah figures. damn stealerships. i took my truck to an off road shop here and they told me my cats were fine my manifold were cracked and my muffler shot. but i make it to 4500 then i make it shift cause other wise it red lines. i bet its nice hearing a v8 at 5000.

im gonna make a video of what mine is doing to have it easier to explain. my personal thought is that either the coil packs are bad or the spark plugs. it feels like its only running on 6 or 7 cylinders. when i bought the truck over a year ago i could redline the truck and chirp tires from the start. now i cant get it to move out of its own way.

What year do you have? It looks like a 03-04.
My 03 doesn't have a physical redline, but it shifts at 4900rpms and that's with a tune. There's no power in the Expedition's V8 above 5,000 rpms so there's no need to go above that. I've never been able to chirp my tires even when it was new, but then again I've never had the skinny 255's on it like some come with.

Where have you read about people getting 24mpg? Without mods you're never going to see over 17/18 mpg... even with mods it's extremely hard to get 20.

5000 rpm's is good for a truck engine that is used for basic driving. The Lightning's shift point was 5250 rpm IIRC, so anything near 5K would be acceptible for the Expy without a built engine or custom tune.

Damn i guess that lucas stuff ive been adding is magic i can chirp my 24's from a dead stop, ill have to verify the rpm/shift point.

Where did you find the 24mpg i need to swap trucks with that guy, the best mileage i ever got was when i drove from ft riley, kansas to ft hood, texas. It was downhill the entire way and there was a north wind and even then i got 19-20mpg the best i ever witnessed, im not running a programmer of any kind (yet) and on avg 13 in the city and 15 on the highway, i could get better but i love to hear my exaust!

I know with my dads 02 f250, it has a 5500 rpm rev limiter. so i dont know if that is the same with our trucks or not.

Mine has a SCT tuner and mine shifts at 6k, I have an 87 Stang and I know the feeling on the difference of the two vehicles, my X actually rides out quite well for being on 35s and having a 4" lift on it.

I thought I had an exaust leak as well but everything checked out. 5-6 months later #3 plug was ejected. I fixed that and the "exaust leak" is gone. 1 or 2 plugs could be ready to let go.....
