KR 3rd seat does not have fold buttons

Hi,
I just bought a 2005 KR and I noticed it did not have seatfold buttons to fold the 3rd row seats. I looked under the seats and saw they are motors that read Fisher 40% and 60% Power Mech Assy. They are no cables in the sockets. Why is this part missing? Is it something that the manufactory making a mistake when assemble the truck? Can I ask the Ford authorized dealer to fix it with free charge?

Welcome to the Forum.

Are you even remotely serious?! No dealer nor Ford itself is going to repair anything on a 2005 vehicle for free, especially if you are not the original owner.

Now let us verify something, you are saying you don't have a pair of buttons to fold the left 40% seat down and one right beside it to fold the 60% seat down? You do know its in the back and not up front at the drivers position don't you? They are ALL the way in the back. To reach the controls, one has to lift the rear liftgate or the rear glass and the two buttons are on the passenger side half way down between the rear side window and the rear cargo floor decking. If you don't have those two control up/down buttons in the rear passenger side cargo area, you must have bought an Expedition that somebody re-badged as a KR. Having said that, my research on both the 2005 2X4 and 4X4 KRs show power 40/60 split third row seats as standard.

Hi, thank you for your prompt reply. You may be right about someone re-badged it to look like KR because the second row seats are now captain seats. The door panels have some stapler in them to keep the leather trim in place and visible. The exterior has KR emblems. The truck should have heated seats too, but there are no control buttons either.
I did check everywhere in the front driver side and under the lift gate, I did not see anything. I attach some pictures for you to see the motors are not hooked up.

On my 2003 EB 4x4 there are TWO sets of buttons for the rear seats.
One set is the very rear passenger side corner above the power outlet.
The other one is on the driver's side on the wall just behind the 2nd row seat.

Wow! you have for switches and mine has none. I think Ford made a mistake on assembling the trucks.

Go to ford etis and enter your vin number. you will get a read out of everything that was on the expedition when it was built.

I called Ford support and they checked he VIN number, they said that it was built with the buttons. But I could not find the buttons anywhere. I'm wondering if I can get the connectors, switches and panel to put in myself?

You could but I would still look at the ford etis site see what all was on it when built

Is it possible that the expy had suffered some damage and has been repaired
I would think that the original owner or even any owner would have had that problem taken care of long before you purchased the expy

Carfax looked clean when I bought it. Even if repair, the connectors and the panel should still be there. Only the two motors under the seats are there.

Third row power folding seat (if equipped)


The control buttons are located on the right-hand rear quarter trim panel

(accessible from the liftgate area).

Push the bottom portion of the

control button to lower the desired

seatback.





Seating and Safety Restraints










Push the top of the control button

to return the seatback to its original

position.

The power folding seats are designed to stall within 1–10 seconds

of encountering an obstruction when opening or closing. Should

this occur, remove the obstruction and wait approximately 1–4

minutes for the seat motor to reset.

The power fold down seats will operate for 30 minutes after the

ignition switch is in Off. The transmission must be in P (park),

and the liftgate, or liftgate glass must be open. Similar to the

Battery Saver feature, the power 3rd row seat will be disabled 30

minutes after turning the vehicle off. If the power 3rd row seat is

disabled after 30 minutes, the seat can be enabled by opening any

door, pressing the unlock key on the key fob, pressing any keyless

keypad button, or turning the ignition key.

Unfortunately it is looking like maybe one of the previous owners added the third row seating after purchasing the truck instead of buying it as a factory option.

Now for the good news, there are plenty of wrecked 2003-2006 Expeditions with power third row seats. Check the online junk yard sites to see if you can find a wiring harness for power third row seating. Then the cheap way would be to see which switch position location you prefer and buy that trim panel making sure it comes with the switches installed (again I suggest checking junk yards). My preference would be to buy the rear passenger side trim panel with switches as that is all I use (I forgot about the switch set on the driver's side second row seating as I think I used it twice in 14 years!). This is not like buying an alternator or AC compressor from a junk yard, the trim panel is either good or its not. If the switches move when you push them they are probably good (if you have a DMM you could check them while there) but even if they are bad you now have the trim piece and can buy new switches at a dealership.

Will the panel and harness in 2001 and 2003 fit the 2005?

The '01 is a completely different vehicle. '03 might, as it is mostly the same as the '05. Did you have anyone run the VIN, or run it yourself, to verify it actually is a King Ranch?

Side note, the front switches for the 3rd row seat was an early build item, as they did away with them mid '03. Mine does not have them, and noticed when I was shopping around for an Expedition, that one I drove had them, and the next did not. Checked the catalog at work (Ford parts department) and not applicable after a certain date.

Side note: Front 3rd row switches were eliminated after 8-3-03. I think they didn't want little fingers being able to operate/fold the seats with people in them.

Did your vehicle already have the power fold harness? I open my right rear panel and do not see any. I am wondering if I can get the harness and connect to some wire to get power to connect to the switches and motors.

Open your fuse panel and check for fuses in positions 104 and 117. Should be green 30A.

If fuses are in place, your vehicle is wired for power 3rd row.

If no fuses are present in positions 104 and 117, look to see if there are the metal fuse holder clips at the bottom of the fuse slot. You can probe with a test light or meter with the ignition turned to ACC or RUN. If there are no fuse holders present, then your vehicle is not wired for power 3rd row. The wiring you will need to add starts here.
