I have an 2007 EL. They came from factory with 3.73 After the lift and 33" tires the truck is a dawg and my mileage dropped to 11.2mpg. Granted its a big truck but I would like to be in the 12's.

I did the tire calculator and it says I should be around a 4.10'ish but I would like to go with a 4.30. Now a spoke with a shop and they recommend that I do a master rebuild kit which is around the same price of gears. When it alls add up Im looking at $1000 for gears, kit, and labor. My truck has 60k on her. What do you think?

at 60k i don't think i would do the master kit... seems like over kill but shops want money so they recomend it...

as fo the ratio i don't tink 4.30 would be to low may give you a little more power

So that means that I would just buy gears and labor correct.

right, worse case i could see is needing replace the pinion bearing, but if it is a confident shop that should be a problem either

so just the ring and pinion of your choice and labor

its odd that you would need to regear with 33's...i am running 3.55 stock gears on my 35's and i get the same mileage as you. as long as he is quoting you the 300 for labor, i would go for it. you have it in writing so if he tries to change his prices later, you got him.

something seems off on the difference between the master kit and the basic..

bearings are cheap and so are seals...

either way if you have it in writing i say go for it... that way the law only gives him 10% to wiggle with out discussing it with you first...

what brand of gears are those?

im hoping Atlas for the price

Does it make a difference in the size meaning the length?
