I have read earlier posts on this subject and was surprised to learn that older models of the Expedition were getting such poor mileage. Then I read on that mileage really dropped when using alcohol blends. The only gasoline readily available in small towns of Peru is E85 and that is what my model vehicle is designed to handle. However, I noticed on my first long trip through the mountains on winding roads, slow speed and high altitude I was getting around 8-10 MPG and the best I got at sea level on the highway was 15 MPG. (This is with the computer or hand calc). Driving around in a small coastal city for a couple weeks, I was getting 6-8 MPG. I only have 2000 miles on my vehicle.

The specs say it should get 14-18 MPG on regular gasoline. So is my mileage about right for the 2012 using E85?

I am not complaining, I did not buy the Expedition for economy and no I don't want a diesel truck or one converted to LPG.

I was just looking at a Buick Verano with a friend the other day and noticed that on regular gas it had an estimated range of 400 miles on a tank. Using E85 that range was estimated at 290 miles.

The bottom line for me. E85 sucks.

Actually, I think that an lpg conversion would be a great way to go, if you can get the conversion done affordably.

But you're using more as you're getting less range out of the tank, so its essentially a wash.

Exactly my point, just becasue you are saving money initially, it doesnt matter becasue you are using more fuel, thus a lower MPG for the same investment.

I get 14 on regular gas, dropped to 10.4 on E85. It was almost 30% cheaper cost wise, but it was still a losing proposition due to cost (per mile cost of E85 was higher than regular gas) and more frequent fill ups (time going to gas station and pumping 30 gallons of fuel).

Very interesting comments on E85 use, in Peru it costs about US$5.00 per gallon for 90 octane blended gasoline; I did not notice any choices for 90 octane, but now I am going to see if where I stop has a higher octane that may not be blended and not be concerned about paying a little more. Based on everyone's mileage experience, I probably will get more value with unblended fuel if it is available.

I have a 2013 King Ranch 4x4 w/ 3.73s. Running around town, 2.5 mile commute, I get about 8 mpg on E85. I get about 10 on 87. It does put more power down to the ground on E85 but as noted there are fewer BTUs per gallon than regular gas. I get about 14-15 mpg on the highway doing 70-75 mph on 87. I get about 12 on E85.

I'll have a E85 tune in a few weeks and will be able to see what type of gains I am really seeing HP wise running E85.
