Hi Guys, i just like to ask, i have a 2005 expedition XLT, my truck is imported, it came from FORD ASTRO somewhere in New Orleans i think, anyways, the original owner is an American and he import it, i just like to ask because when i check under, i saw that i have the transfer case and front diff, however i dosen't have a front prop Shaft and a 4x4 lever switch at the dashboard, so when i check my VIN online, it says that its a 4x4.

My question is, is it really a 4x4? if i buy a front prop shaft and connect it with my transfercase to the front diff will it work without the 4x4 lever switch at the dashboard? or is it a real time 4x4?

Missing swith from the dash

More than likely not. For some reason he must have felt that disabling the 4x4 would be beneficial. That model should have a 2H option (as seen on the switch you posted) that disables the magnetic clutch used in A4WD which I would guess is what it is currently in. You would either need the switch, or something to send the signal through each wire to engage the transfer case in each setting.

If it were originally a 4x2, you would not have the t-case and front pumpkin, so at one time it was 4x4

Nope. It sounds like the previous owner replaced the dash with a 2wd version.

The entire system would need to be checked out to see if there was a problem that forced him to remove that driveshaft.

There would be no benefit to removing it (fuel economy, etc) so it begs the question 'why?'
