Hey guys new to the forum glad to be here. So just bought my 02 ford expedition 4.6 xlt and it has a couple problems.
First off there's three misfires coming from coils 2, 3, and 5. Here's the issue, I don't know if its due to the coils or plugs misfiring but its generating a knocking sound from the passenger side. Seen a few fords with this problem but not sure if same issue you know. The guy I bought it from did not do any routine maintenance so the oil is pretty messed up. I threw seafoam in the engine and it did reduce the noise a little. Just hoping to get some help from yall.
Thank you very much..
Heres a link to what it sounded like.

How many miles on the Expy sounds as though you need to replace all coils and plugs There was a recent post about using dielectric grease on the boot coils you may want to do that when installing new coils and boots

Have you scanned the codes?

That's defently sounds like a blown plug to me. When you tear into it you will find out what one. Hopfully it is not #8. It is a bear to repair with the motor in the truck.

Could it be a clogged cat. saw a video that had that problem but with the coils could it cause the extra noise

Do you have any idea how long the truck was run with the three cylinders misfiring? If the condition was ignored for a long time, it could have clogged a cat. Lean codes could indicate vac leak(s), dirty MAF sensor, low fuel pressure or problems related.

You're gonna know more once you get going with the repair. Start with the misfires. Cylinders 2, 3 and 5 are easy to access. Correct the misfire conditions there and consider servicing the other five cylinders according to inspection and your situation. Start with obvious and necessary, common and inexpensive misfire solutions. Then investigate lean condition.

That said, the video sure does sound like a blown plug to me.

the first video he posted i instantly thought he there a plug thats why i told him to check to see if there are even there but the second video he posted it doesnt sound like a blown plug.

the first thing you need to do is change or check the plugs taken them out and then tell us what you first. videos of other people on youtube do help but cant always be right from car to car. but im still going with a blown out plug.
