@dsquared You're out of balance drivetrain sounds similar to mine. I've posted elsewhere of the ongoing struggle. So far everything (alignment, balancing, bearings, tires, brakes) have all made small improvements but there is still a general shaking around the cabin at higher speeds (65-70 mph). Dealer can't see anything visually wrong and will monitor if it worsens with time.

There seems to be an abnormally high number of QC issues so far into the generation, and this is from someone who bought a few from new 2000/2010 Dodge/Jeep products.

I think it really comes down to price, if this were a 40k kia I'd probably be more tolerant, but at +100k CAN it's hard to accept. Definitely looking a lot closer at Toyota/Lexus for the next car.

Agreed, it's the price that makes this such a slap in the face.

I really think it's a sign of "optimization". The manufacturers release poorly made product understanding that the majority of the consumers won't notice anything wrong, and the few that do get the burden to go through the reconciliation process through the support network.

If the rate is 2 in 200, are we at 1% lemon rate? Did a 90's Camry, Accord, or Maxima fail 1% of the time in the first year? I don't think so.

This is becoming par for the course in autos today. BMW’s new X3 was so stripped of features and materials that even buyers have been voting with their wallets and not buying them.

Now as for the transmission - a 2024 with what sounds like bad CDF symptoms. I’m still hung up on that considering they “fixed” the issue by this point.

I've had a lot of cars over the years, many beaters, currently own 3 other nice cars of which 2 are rebuilt (frame up bearings, bushings, seals) by myself, and one is a Tesla. My fourth vehicle is my 2024 Expedition XLT.

I have needed a big car for a while, I had a van I regret selling. I was very excited about getting an Expedition, I test drove a few, and bought one that was just right.. And honestly it's such a *************, I can't believe I'm writing this post. I now have around 8k miles on it.

On the first day the car, on the second startup at home the car showed a "brake failure" message on screen. Figured new car glitches, no big deal.. Turned off/on, can drove okay. I scanned it with forscan a bit later it was some communications failure in related to ABS module IIRC. In any case.
The tailgate was failing to close almost off the bat, I had to twist in the tailgate rubber bushings to get it to close. It slams closed now, but at least it closes. It's not exactly aligned great from the factory.

I had a loud cracking sound turning the steering wheel. A local dealer fixed that by replacing the steering column. Also stole sunglasses out the car (first service!), but did replace monetarily.
I now have a weird notching/binding feeling in the steering at some points. It's pretty minor, I'm guessing the quality of the steering column bearings is just absolute trash. It's ridiculous. I guess I've just been spoiled by vehicles that steer smoothly?

The Auto engine Start / Stop idiocy.. just killing your starter and battery.

And then there's the transmission. OMFG. Why does it slam from 5th to 4th? Why does it slam from 5th to 3rd? Why does it clank and bang into gears whenever you do anything around 20mph? I thought the CVT it my Maxima "wasn't great" but man do I miss it now. It's a 70k dollar car.
I also have a disbalance somewhere and a definite vibration about 70mph. At 8k miles it could be tires.

Not automatic rear windows? I didn't even think to check for that when I bought it but I should have. All the used ones I drove. had them.

I must have cursed by using it to throw out trash on the very first day. I would've bought a Shelby for sure but I'm never buying another Ford, what a joke.
Go for lemon law. And fast. Ford will string you along but imagine if in 8k miles it’s like this what would deal with at 18k or 28k. Don’t bother.
Ford. #1 in recalls!

I'm probably past that option, I've had it for 18 months now. We'll see, but I'm making peace with it and if it's still not shifting and turning well by the end of year I'll probably just get rid of it at whatever loss and will consider this a lesson in never buying a Ford.

You might ask about a reflash for the pcm. My trans is so much better after the update. The tsb says 18-21 models, but maybe there is one to try in a 24 too.

Damn, sucks your going through all this. Unfortunately, with all new cars its a gamble...
My Expy was driven by the general manager of the dealership for 4,000 miles and of course they sold it to me with a full warranty. It's been perfect apart from a very few very minor interior scuffs that are easy to ignore.

One of the other best vehicles we've ever owned, a '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was also dealer-driven, in that case it was the boss's wife iirc. In any case we finally donated it in I think it was 2014 or so--it had an awful lot of rust underneath (MN winters) such that shops didn't even want to work on it any more.

Lightly used trumps brand new, assuming you trust the ppl who "lightly used" it.

Dealer called with updates, here they are so far:
- replacing two tires under warranty (for vibration at speed)
- updating software on trans
- front differential overhaul (for vibration at speed)
- still looking into steering rack and column

These things have way too many issues.
Also, ford doesn't handle recalls like Toyota or Lexus. They just prefer to cheap out and only replace specific parts. Toyota has an crankshaft issue, they replace the entire engine with a new one. you won't find that from ford or GM. (GM's solution was use thicker oil)
Do they save money, sure, but compare toyota and ford, you can see who's actually making out ahead on their balance sheets.

I bought a 19 exp MAX.. Nice Red.. NOT WHITE! Drove from the dealer about 20 miles. Stopped for lunch. Came out, got in the car, the trans was doing some really strange stuff. We managed to get it back to the dealer.. Parked out front. The salesman came out... You cant park here. I told him to move it.. He got it back to service, The service mgr said... It is not supposed to do that. Gave me a white max :(. Has been a great car. I did put in the auto stop delete and aftermarket stereo. Not very good sound for an expensive car. Now with 115,000 miles. Starting to get some electrical issues. Prevents the cruise control from working. Intermittent. I think it is a wiring harness issue. Im not thrilled with Fords electronics

Got the car back. Diff rebuild was a mistake - they didn't do it... Replaced two tires and it does feel a little smoother at speed. Trans does shift a bit better, but it's still far from what I would call good. It still has a drag in the steering. Thinking about bringing it back.

The transmission shifting is crappy adaptive software learn. Happened to me was shifting terrible. Used ForScan to clear the learned shifting adaptive curve and all problems went away.

I've done that with ForScan and the dealer did that too, but it didn't fix all, for me. They are doing an "accelerated break-in on the valve body" now, but not surely entirely what that means. Regarding the steering crunch, they stated that compared mine to three other expeditions they had in and none had it, so they tore into it and have possibly traced that to a coupling on the lower steering shaft which only moves smoothly on one axis (sent me a video showing it too, which was pretty nice) and are replacing the shaft. Hope to get it back soon and see if either issue is improved.

Got the car back today. It steers better - no more crunch. It does shift better too, not perfect but much better. Hopefully it lasts. Notes from service:

- steering column upper shaft replacement
- accelerated main control break in on all clutch packs, reset KAM, adaptive learning drive cycle

It's crazy and unfortunate that you've had such a bad time with your Expy but perhaps time will heal your wounds. You will be ultra-sensitive to steering and shifting for a while for sure so this may take a long while.

I wouldn't stop hounding the dealership until the transmission is 100%...but I'm also on rebuild three now. They have recalls/tsb's on the transmission that involve new parts and should be able to get it right.
