Hey everyone, Just joined up today in hopes of solving this problem

Just drove down to Walmart, got done shopping and then when I started the truck back up it makes this high pitched whistle/grinding noise from under the vehicle and it sounds like either near the back of the engine or near the transmission box... it does not go away and it will do it while in park or drive or neutral, the noise coincides with the rpm's and I have not noticed any performance problems after this started or even before....

If the starter is disengaging, I would have to go with bad transmission pump and/or torque converter. Changing the fluid and filter may help. It can't hurt any.

I agree with the above... torque converter or tranny pump. Can you crawl under the vehicle to tell exactly where the sound is coming from. If from the bell housing it likely one or the other.

I would point to the TC as mentioned above. Never heard that one before. check that there is nothing rubbing around the acc belt as well to be safe. also pop that grommet off the bottom of the bell housing and see if there is anything abnormal in there.

Have you checked to make sure the belt isn't rubbing or a idler bearing bad or something?

Well Thank yall for all your help, However I belive I am looking at needing a full rebuild....Went to change the fluid and filter and the old fluid has a gliter like look to it as well as some metal shavings, Im leaning towards pump or TC as the cause of the noise but with all of those shavings going through the tranny not good lol.... THANKS FOR EVERYONES HELP...

Whoever rebuilds or installs a new transmission make sure they flush the cooler really well. You can even install an inline filter. Those filings will quickly take out another transmission.

might as well replace the radiator if it hasn't been done. if the trans to coolant part fails you will be out another transmission...that or move to a separate trans cooler. (if it's possible.. I wouldn't mind doing it to my expy)
