My wife and I are in the process of ordering a 2018 Expedition. Its going to be a Limited Max 4x4 with the standard 20" rims. I want to put 285/70r17s on the Expedition with some aftermarket rims. As long as I keep the tires tucked in, does anyone think this combo will work? The tires will be Goodyear Duratracs.

Thanks in advance.

I’m in the same situation. Looked at the brake parts, and they are same as my 2010 F150.

I’d expect my F150 take offs that I use for winter with 265/75/17 will also fit the Expedition I have ordered. My F150 has 20s as stock.

I'm pretty certain the 17" rims will fit, I think I'm going to have a bigger problem with the tire size while turning and hitting a bump. I really don't want to take a grinder to a brand new vehicle again

Just lift it. Readylift 3/2. $400 and call it a day

It will get lifted eventually but I am not using spacers. I think Im just going to use 18s unfortunately with a 275/65r18 because I know those will fit.

Everyone is entitled to their person opinion.
Good luck, they don’t make anything other than spacers for 16+ Ex’s

Yeah they are only available for the front so I’m betting there’s a spacer in the rear. Other thing is, they probably had to do some modification because the picture shown on their website is only for f150s and the bolt that holds the lower control arm to the strut is incorrect for newer mode years. 2014+ expeditions have two bolts that run vertically through the LCA, this only shows one running horizontally so I doubt they were able to bolt them right on. Spacers do no harm to the suspension and I dont see why you would waste $1500 on two coil overs when it does the same thing as a spacer. Unless you move every suspension component up like a $2500 lift kit would, it would t matter using these coil overs or saving $1100 and using a set of quality spacers

Thats the thing, I live in a remote area and have to travel 180 miles of gravel road built on a swamp to leave or come home. I've caught air, not huge air but tires off the ground, in different vehicles multiple times due to the bumps. I had a $5000 suspension system on my 2011 F350 with King shocks, custom coil front springs and Deaver leaf springs. Even with that setup, I still found bumps that would bottom out the truck. So I will not use a spacer that can fail. And I'm 99% sure the 15+ Expeditions have the same lower coilover mount as the 2014+ F150s with two horizontal bolts like you described. And the rears or the same style as the previous years. Here is a picture of the 2014+ F150 mount

Plus that Expedition that I posted above has rear coilovers. If you look at this picture, you'll see grey coils right beside the rear tire. And if you watch the company's build video, when they show the Icon coilovers, they have grey coils.

You sir, have proven your point: that older model year F150 suspension parts may fit newer Ex’s. I stand corrected. That would be one hell of an expensive set up but if your off-roading it’s probably worth it. For my DD, spacers do just fine since only time I take it off Road is in NC at OBX on the beach

Those duratracs would be 33/11.50/17 according to Goodyear’s website. I’m assuming the ones coming on the 18 would be 275/55/20? If so your looking at an increase of 0.9” height and 0.3” width. I’d say you would be just fine

From following LGE-CTS Motorsports on Instagram, it sounds like they're going to be building more of these types of offroad Expeditions for customers. This vehicle was extremely popular at SEMA and at the LA Autoshow where I got to take a decent look at it. Awesome looking truck in person. They were running 35" BFG MTs with 20" Methods. 325/60R20. But it seems like A LOT of trimming was involved and I read somewhere they would recommend 33's for normal customer vehicles. I imagine if you give them a call they can tell you exactly what is involved with putting icon or fox coilovers on it.

Yeah a lot of trimming was involved to make those fit. I had to trim wheel wells to get my 35s to fit with a 3” lift on my 2016

I think I'm gonna stick with 32s for stock height and bump up to 33s after I lift it.

33/12.50 should work for lift with no rubbing. Unless the suspension components are completely different than 3rd gens.

To chime in here we swapped out the 22s on our platinum with 20" x 9" Fuel Mavericks with +20 backspacing and 275/60R20 Cooper AT3s that are 33.03" according to Cooper (and no lift). We have no rubbing issues at all and the wheels are only slightly further out than stock. I think you'll be find since 285 is only 10mm wider (less than 1/2"). Just posted a couple of pics in the 2018+ pics thread that show the wheel turned and the overall size if that helps

When you turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Is your left tire (sitting in the driver seat) rather rubbing on the front bumper or the right tire rubbing on the running board?

I wonder if a 8.5 rim would work too as it has less backspacing
