I say never discount the destructive potential of an idgit with a full array of shop tools

I'm definitely a no dealer myself, but could somebody explain how a dealer tech could be doing something that could be damaging timing chains?

Beats the hell out of me, but if TWO out of TWO low-mileage trucks their service guys tinkered with exhibit it....

Then, THIS:

Timing chain breaking on one of these engines is an anomaly and doesn’t really happen much if ever. The 5.4 has dual chains.....strong setup as far as that goes.

We had a couple of work trucks die with the 5.4l timing chain issue. Lack of maintenance and driving low on oil, because engine was burning it. Both were the passenger side. One issue caused an other. However, they had over 200K and idle constantly. I believe if Ford had installed a 'real" oil gauge, a driver could see when they are low. Ford oil gauges are glorified idiot lights and a waste.
