Hi,

I have a 2019 expedition and am having some problems. I had my oil changed by a local shop 2 weeks ago. Last weekend I got a low oil pressure notification (went from fine to zero) which cleared immediately after restarting the car. I took it back to the shop and had them confirm oil levels were fine, which they were. They were unable to reproduce the issue. Car was fine all week. Today I got a P0390 code. Cleared it and a few hours later P0390 and P0394.

Thoughts on what this could be?

Thanks!

What specs of the oil they put into your engine?

6 or 7k. Had been changed about 9 months prior.

I obviously thought the shop goofed something with the oil change based on the low oil pressure light. But seems like they did not screw anything up (according to them).

To be clear i haven't gotten the oil pressure light since last weekend and only started getting the codes today.

That is one thing I do not like on a Ford. The oil pressure gauge. It either shows full pressure or no pressure and nothing in between, like a 80s or early nineties oil pressure light.

Maybe a camshaft position sensor and the wiring plus connectors that go with it.

Thanks. That's good to know. The low/no oil pressure actually occurred about 30 minutes into driving it.

Pushed taking it to the dealer tomorrow.

Got the car back from the dealer this morning. They said they couldn't find anything wrong with it and reprogrammed the PCM which was recalled.

They did drive it for 35 miles and claimed it was running fine.

I do not believe this, the car is not running right and making more gurgling noise than usual when I gradually increase RPMs. In sport mode it seems to be slower running through the gears when I get on it.

Thoughts?

By chance, did your low oil pressure occur during Auto Start/Stop? When the engine stops, oil press will go to zero. Normal.

Here is what I had done 2 years ago, by a different dealer. Am I right in that Intake and exhaust phasers on both banks were replaced?

This was less than 2 years and only 15k miles ago!

I wound up not taking it since it was behaving normally for some time. Of course as soon as I put my kids car seats back in it I have a problem.

Today I drove it a few times, last time I get another low oil pressure light a mile or two from home. Now I am also getting a P0025 code which seems that this can occur when oil pressure is poor. There was a whining noise coming from the engine as well. Seems like I have an intermittent oil delivery issue? Maybe not phasers after all?

Change the oil filter and put a factory one on. If I did an oil change and had pressure codes come on or indications of low pressure this would be the second thing to check. First would be the oil level which you said has been done. After that I would verify the oil pressure and sensor operation.

7000 miles on the turboed 3.5 is definitely too long of an oil interval. Rod knock is not good. Poor oil maintenance history will be very obvious with a look into the engine via camera. The absolute one thing you can not do is run these engines on long oil change intervals.

My very basic non turbo plugin hybrid goes 7000 miles between oil changes just fine. The Expedition is very hard on oil and gets changed every 5000 miles.

If you get low oil pressure warning thats an immediate stop and check oil levels and oil filter. If something is causing oiling issues you can destroy the engine real quick.
