I am having a weird problem with my 2023.

If I open the rear hatch from the dash, it's fine.
If I open it from the remote, it's fine.

If I open it by pressing the button in the handle sometimes (75%) it open about 10 inches and stops. Another press of the button and it goes all the way up.

I read the manual and reset the height. (Opened all the way up, press and hold the button on the hatch until you hear a beep. Repeated more than once).

Am I using it wrong? Do I need a longer press? Shorter press? Will it eventually loosen up and break in ok? Or do I need a repair.

I am loving the truck otherwise. Still on break-in so I am driving like Miss Daisy is in the back for now.

I have chalked it up to something I will need to deal with. I think it could be some sensor related issue. It seems if I hit the button and step back quickly it continues to open, if I am standing near the door it stops. This is why I think it might be some kind of sensor that is stopping it. As you say it works find from the remote and dash. Only does this when I hit the button on the door. Yesterday when I stepped back quickly it opened all the way, the day before it stopped when I didn't step back.

Interesting idea. I usually do stand close to the hatch to open it. (old habit). I'll try it.

Mine would stop too. Turned out it was because it would bump my stomach as it raised and automatically stopped. Now I have to make sure my stomach is out of the way and move after I press the button..

Mine is height adjustable. Press the outside button and the rear gate opens. Pressing the close button on the bottom of the rear gate during opening will stop the opening process. Now if you press that close button for 2 or 3 seconds, you should hear a beep or something and that indicates the new opening height is programmed.
Next time you open the rear gate it should open to that height what it is programmed to (for short folks to be able to close the rear gate again).

The adjustable opening height is handy when your Expedition is parked in a garage and opening the hatch to full height would result in banging into the garage door.
